This role requires both technical skills in grooming and a compassionate approach to animal care.
Responsibilities
- Perform grooming services including bathing, brushing, trimming, and nail clipping for various breeds of dogs and cats.
- Assess the condition of pets’ coats and skin, identifying any potential health issues that may require attention.
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with pet owners regarding their pets’ grooming needs and aftercare.
- Maintain a clean and organized grooming area, ensuring all tools and equipment are sanitized and in good working condition.
- Handle animals safely and compassionately, employing proper animal restraint techniques when necessary.
- Assist with other pet care tasks as needed, including pet sitting or basic training guidance.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of animal care principles, particularly in relation to grooming techniques.
- Experience in pet grooming is essential; additional skills in dog training or veterinary assistance are highly valued.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when handling larger breeds or multiple pets at once.
- Familiarity with animal restraint methods to ensure the safety of both the groomer and the pet during grooming sessions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to build rapport with clients and their pets, ensuring a positive experience for all involved.
- A background in equine care is an advantage but not required.
