Job Goal
To promote student success, provide preventative services and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school-based counseling program that addresses academic, career and personal/social development of students.
Provide comprehensive, data driven, developmental support within the academic, personal/social, and career domains that deliver services equitably to all students. Counselors provide direct student services through school counseling core curriculum, individual student planning, and responsive services. They also provide indirect student services on behalf of the student such as referral for additional assistance, consultation, and collaboration with parents, teachers, and other professional and community organizations.

- Master’s Degree in Counseling or Related Field

- AZ IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

Core Job Functions
- Perform annual credit audits with students to ensure they meet graduation requirements.
- Develop and maintain graduation plans for each student.
- Facilitate annual student registration and assist with individual student scheduling needs.
- Assist students with their Education Career Action Plans (ECAP) and post-secondary options.
- Facilitate whole classroom lessons that address the academic, career, and social-emotional development domains of counseling.
- Demonstrate and apply knowledge of counseling protocols by applying appropriate practices and following policies regarding the safety of students.
- Follow all ministerial duties for mandatory reporting, thoughts of suicide, and self-harm.
- Apply appropriate counseling techniques for individual and group sessions to intervene and meet the developmental needs of students.
- Utilize site data to make informed decisions regarding a comprehensive school counseling program that includes special support for marginalized subgroups.
- Coordinate and/or participate in school-wide activities related to student well-being.
- Maintain and create a safe, equitable, and inclusive space for all students.
- Maintain the confidentiality of student records and student information.
- Collaborate with other professionals to monitor student academic, career and social-emotional development goals.
- Consult and collaborate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student’s identified needs and concerns.
- Support individual students request for necessary letters of recommendations for post- secondary options.
- Support student initiatives related to but not limited to wellness, substance use education, violence prevention, conflict resolution, anti-bullying strategies, coping skills, and character education.
- Develop and coordinate 504 plans for identified students.
- Educate and outreach with students and families regarding concerns about safety.
- Participate and apply district, site and professional based training.
- Stay current on evidence-based practices and engage in continuing education coursework.
- Support and facilitate a positive school climate and culture that includes students, staff, parents/guardians and other school community members.
- Assist and/or coordinate district and state assessments.
- Other duties as assigned.
