The Division of Hematology and Oncology at UT Tyler is seeking a highly motivated and accomplished Medical Oncologist to lead our Breast Cancer Program as a Disease Team Leader. This academic role is ideal for an individual with a strong commitment to clinical excellence, innovative research, and leadership within a dynamic, multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will play a key role in enhancing our breast cancer research portfolio, mentoring junior faculty, and driving clinical excellence within the breast cancer program. This is a full-time position with protected research time, competitive compensation, and robust support for academic growth.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Deliver high-quality, evidence-based care to patients with breast cancer within both outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Design and implement innovative treatment protocols and clinical guidelines to advance breast cancer care in the institution.
  • Engage in regular tumor boards, case discussions, and multidisciplinary planning sessions to ensure best practices in breast cancer treatment.
  • Develop and lead a clinical research program within breast oncology, with a focus on innovative clinical trials, translational research, and / or health outcomes research.
  • Identify, design, and lead clinical trials as principal investigator, with a focus on expanding institutional clinical trial offerings for breast cancer.
  • Disseminate research findings through high-impact publications, conference presentations, and community education.
  • Serve as a key representative for the Breast Cancer Program in institutional and regional cancer care initiatives.

Leadership and Program Development :

  • Lead the Breast Cancer Program, guiding strategy, clinical initiatives, and programmatic growth.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team (including surgery, radiation oncology, pathology, and radiology) to advance personalized and integrated care pathways for breast cancer patients.
  • Mentor and support junior faculty, fellows, residents, and medical students in clinical and research activities, fostering a collaborative and educational environment.
  • Qualifications :

  • Education : MD or DO degree from an accredited institution; board certification in Medical Oncology and Hematology, Internal Medicine (preferred).
  • Experience : clinical experience in outpatient breast medical oncology, with a strong background in clinical research.
  • Leadership Skills : Demonstrated leadership abilities with multidisciplinary teams in the planning and conduct of clinical research studies.
  • Clinical Excellence : Demonstrated record of clinical excellence in the management of breast cancer in an academic or high-volume clinical setting in the practice of Medical Oncology.
  • Academic Achievement : Proven track record in clinical research, with experience as a principal investigator or lead investigator in clinical trials. A record of scholarly activity, including clinical / translational research, publications, presentations at national and / or international meetings is desirable.
  • Teaching : Commitment to education and mentorship, with experience in teaching Medical Oncology / Hematology fellows, residents, and medical students.
