SCOPE:

The Commercial Banking Officer is responsible for business development and portfolio management of commercial banking relationships. Coordinates business development efforts with other officers across lines of business. Collaborates with credit and operations departments to underwrite, originate, service, monitor and collect commercial loans and grow depository, Treasury Management, and Wealth Management relationships with an entrepreneurial client base. Comply with "SMART" goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound). Assumes a visible leadership role by serving the community and the bank as a role model of our organization.


ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Business Development/Sales:

  • Create and grow a network of centers of influence, including accountants, attorneys, realtors, and other professionals and niche groups to become trusted referral sources.
  • Conduct joint calls with other officers to retain and expand the bank's relationship.
  • Actively ask for new business from new and existing customers utilizing the bank's "Trusted Advisor" strategies.
  • Actively promote bank and community events to prospects and customers, and network with guests.
  • Grow the bank's revenue in a relationship and needs-based approach through:
    • Origination of quality loans to new and current customers
    • New deposits with emphasis on being the primary depository for clients
    • Generation of loan fees and other non-interest income including Treasury Management and TWM services
  • Communicate effectively with borrowers to ensure understanding of bank's views, expectations, and requests.
  • Communicate in an effective and timely way internally with other bank departments to support having an accurate understanding of the revenue opportunities and risk dynamics of customer and prospective customer relationships.
  • Maintain record of customer contact and business development activities and results through the bank's CRM software and reporting systems.

Commercial Loan Portfolio Origination/Management:

  • Interview applicants and request information needed for underwriting and evaluation of the loan application.
  • Apply deep understanding of prudent loan structuring in reviewing existing lending commitments and proposing new lending commitments. Counsel applicants on loan approval policy(s) and procedures.
  • Analyze loan requests and the financial condition of current and proposed lending arrangements. Partner effectively and constructively with the credit department in underwriting and reviewing borrower relationships to produce a consistent, timely, and accurate understanding of risk profile.
  • Facilitate negotiation with applicant according to established policies, including terms, fees, repayment options, and other approval covenants to ensure loan documents are complete, accurate and timely.
  • Proactively manage portfolio relationships to maintain a deep understanding of their business, including current performance, outlooks and goals, expectations, determine Risk Rating changes, and identify other opportunities.
  • Assist customers in understanding and meeting their obligations, including payments, financial and project reporting, and covenant compliance, as applicable.
  • As needed, implement appropriate collection and risk remediation plans as needed to minimize risk of loss.

Commercial Deposit Portfolio Management:

  • Generate new commercial deposit growth
  • Promote "needs-based" deposit products and Treasury Management services to customers and prospects.

Community Involvement:

  • Provide visible leadership for:
    • > 2 community service organizations, networking with members to achieve organization goals, develop personal connections and promote the bank's favorable image.
    • > 1 Bank sponsored event each year.
  • Must participate and be involved in community and industry events within the community where the branch is located. This includes after-hours and weekend events.

Other Duties:

  • Maintain a deep and updated understanding of the bank's credit policies, loan software processes, risk management philosophy, regulations, and compliance requirements; take initiative in asking questions to clarify.
  • Actively participate in office, department or committee meetings to continually improve the bank's customer and co-worker experience and positive culture.
  • Provide referrals to other departments including Treasury Management, Home Mortgage Lending, Retail, and Trust and Wealth Management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university, with completed courses in marketing, communications, accounting, finance, and economics; or three to five years in sales or banking experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred history of school/community engagement activities and volunteerism.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Working knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing, and database software programs.
  • Must sign a non-compete.
