Description
A Registered Nurse is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and evaluation with consideration of the aging process, human development stages and cultural diversity. Directs and coordinates all nursing care for monitored / medical / surgical patients based on established clinical nursing practice standards and hospital policy and procedures. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. Scheduled workdays and times may vary and will include weekends and holidays.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports and promotes an environment conducive with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital.
- Delivers nursing care according to the standards of care defined within the Illinois Nurse Practice Act
- Promotes a therapeutic relationship with patients and families.
- Collects and documents pertinent health data using appropriate assessment techniques using a systematic and ongoing process utilizing interventions appropriated for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Analyzes and documents diagnoses / patient problems in a manner that facilitates the determination of expected outcomes and plan of care in collaboration with patient, significant others, and other health care personal.
- Identifies realistic and attainable outcomes individualized to the patient's present and potential capabilities.
- Develops an individualized plan of care that prescribes intervention to attain expected outcomes.
- Evaluates and documents the patient's progress toward attainment of outcomes.
- Utilizes ongoing assessment data to revise diagnoses / patient problems, outcomes and plan of care as needed.
- Notifies physician / surgeon of changes in patient's condition in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Communicates with co-workers on a timely basis including end of shift updates.
- Makes clinical decisions and sets priorities related to workload management based on clinical knowledge and individual patient needs.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patients, hospital, or physician related information
- Maintain orderly condition of assigned work area.
- Is knowledgeable of general hospital and unit specific policies and procedures.
