Tier 1
Duties and Responsibilities

- Applies broad knowledge of principles and practices to the planning, design support, construction, assessment, asset management, and maintenance of multiple municipal projects, or portions of major projects; resolves conflicts and ensures compliance with permits and regulations; prepares and monitors scopes, budgets, and schedules to ensure timely completion of projects
- Drafts or revises plans and drawings utilizing computer-aided design tools.
- Researches and conducts environmental and mapping surveys.
- Performs cost analysis and feasibility studies.
- Prepares survey reports and legal descriptions.
- Assists with preparing contract drafts; evaluates contractor proposals and assists with review of proposals for professional engineering services.
- Interacts with clients, customers, officials, contractors, and internal and external department personnel to ensure efficient flow of communication and service.
- Attends preconstruction meetings and presents specific aspects of proposed and existing engineering assignments. Other duties as assigned.

Work Category

Minimum Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major in Engineering or bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in an Engineering-related field; AND
- Three years of experience in the investigation, evaluation, assessment, planning, design, or inspection of public infrastructure and systems;
OR
- An equivalent combination of education (not less than possession of a High School diploma/GED), training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above.
Emergency Management Responsibilities
In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee’s department, the County’s Office of Emergency Management, or County Administration. Such assignments may be for before, during or after the emergency/disaster.
Career Progression
Employees in this classification that acquire the competencies and minimum qualifications for the next tier will be able to apply for promotional opportunities through a competitive selection process. Employees will not automatically be upgraded to the next tier. Reclassifying a position is based on business need and financial impact and is not based solely on the job competencies or qualifications of the incumbent.
