Summary :

The Accountant 4, Payroll, performs duties in the Payroll Department to support the Business Division.

SUPERVISORY EXPECTATIONS : Manage assigned clerical staff and subordinate professional personnel in one or more sections of the department. Take responsibility for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of assigned teams. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district's policies and applicable state and federal laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Responsibilities :

  • Analyzes and audits accounting and fiscal data, records, and reports for assigned grants funds.
  • Oversees the preparation and maintenance of time and leave reports, payroll records, and payments.
  • Creates, establishes, maintains, and audits financial records, accounts, ledgers, and journals.
  • Reconciles and balances financial statements accounting records, and ledgers for assigned grants.
  • Reviews processes and procedures continuously to identify areas to improve in regards to best business practices.
  • Provides analytical support for problem resolution, requests for action, research of historical records, testing of potential solutions, and results analysis.
  • Establishes cooperative relationships with district departments, employees, and others to effectively resolve issues with a teamwork approach.
  • Handles various job duties and must be detail oriented.
  • Performs supervisory, administrative, and professional work involving the direction and control of a large departmental accounting function.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.

    Managing People : Provides direction and gains compliance. Includes subordinates in planning. Takes responsibility for subordinates' activities. Makes self available to subordinates. Provides regular performance feedback. Develops subordinates' skills and encourages growth.

    Experience : Six (6) years of increasingly responsible experience in finance, accounting, or grant management. A high school diploma, vocational or GED with business experience (finance, bookkeeping, payroll, Student Information system data processing, internal auditing, etc.) may substitute for college course work on the basis of (2) two years of experience for each year of

    required college. Master's degree may be substituted for (2) two years of the experience requirement.

    Language Skills : Reads and interprets general business and professional journals, technical procedures, or regulations. Writes reports, correspondence, and manuals. Effectively presents and responds to questions from managers and the public.

    Mathematical Skills : Calculates figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Applies concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

    Reasoning Ability : Applies understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Deals with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

    Computer Skills : Microsoft Office and district data systems.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

    Physical Activities : Standing, walking, sitting, handling, keyboarding, talking, and hearing.

    Lifting Demands : Up to 10 pounds.

    Reaching Activities : Both dominant and non-dominant hand; overhead.

    Environmental Conditions : Noise Intensity : 3, moderate.
