Welding Instructor


BROAD STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Welding Technology Instructor shall deliver the State of Michigan Curriculum regulated by the Office of Career and Technical Education to students in the Hillsdale Area Career Center’s Welding program.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess a valid Interim Occupational Certificate (IOC) or Standard Teaching Certificate OR possess a valid Occupational Education Certificate (OEC) or Professional CTE Certificate in Welding, Brazing, and Soldering (CIP Code 48.0508) or a State-approved equivalent CIP Code.
  • OR have a minimum of two full years (4,000 hours) of recent and relevant work experience in a welding field AND must possess a minimum of an associate's degree.
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate preferred (not required to begin, but willingness to work toward Michigan teacher certification).
  • One or more American Welding Society (AWS) Certification(s) preferred (not required).
  • Must have current knowledge and experience with modern welding technology and robotic welding equipment.
  • Must be able to develop and deliver curriculum, utilize best practice, and web technologies to deliver instruction, develop authentic learning projects, and assess student learning.
  • Must be able to develop and maintain contacts and partnerships with those in the industry, guest speakers, field trips, and demonstrations.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills and technology skills, be detail and team-oriented, and have excellent communication skills.
  • Experience working with high school-age students and a diverse student population preferred (not required).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, prepare, and deliver curriculum content that:
  1. Is in alignment with the State of Michigan and the Hillsdale Area Career Center.
  2. Supports student learning through a variety of delivery methods: project-based learning, online, and in-person.
  3. Incorporates equipment and technology current to education models.
  4. Supports programs' focus on preparing students for post-secondary education experiences with project-based learning, equity, inclusion, restorative practices, distinguished teacher pedagogical knowledge, etc.
  5. Incorporates cross-curricular concepts of Math, English and Science.
  • Maintain an instructional environment that is:
  1. Promotes learning opportunities for all.
  2. Provides for an equitable and balanced assessment of student achievement by a variety of methods.
  3. Promotes individual student responsibility and accountability
  • Administer tests to evaluate pupil progress, record results, and issue reports informing parents of progress.
  • Keep attendance records
  • Directs other classroom staff.
  • Remain current with reporting requirements, trends, and changes in CTE education.
  • Creates and collaborate with an advisory committee.
  • Maintain a positive sustem of classroom management.
  • Meet with parents to discuss student progress and issues that arise.
  • Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
  • Instruct students by lecturing, demonstrating, and using audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations.
  • Develop project-based learning experiences and effectively intregrate lab equipment into student learning and assessment.
  • Monitor the safety and appropriateness of the equipment in a manner that aligns to current industry practice.
  • Monitor the budget, determine equipment/supply needs, and place orders.
  • Develop and maintain a Welding Advisory Committee and develop new industry parternerships.
  • Integrate technology to leverage the online capabilities of the welding trainers and related online content and the Career and Employability curriculum using various Learning Management Systems.
  • Have extensive knowledge and experience with:
  1. Welding processes to include: OFW-C-B, SMAW, GMAW. FCAW. GTAW
  2. Vision systems intergrated into robotic welding cells
  3. Some experience with Manufacturing/Machining/CNC/ Construction
  4. Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance Measurements
  5. Blueprint/Schematics/Drafting

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Experience with or proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and Google Suite.
  • Expeience with diverse learners.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to equity and inclusion in all practices and position responsibilities.  Demonstrates the ability to examine the impact of education inequities in student achievement outcomes as it aligns with race, ethnicity, and socio-economics status.
  • Demonstrates building relationships with multiple stakeholders

Salary:

Per MEA/HCISD Master Agreement.  Placement on the scale to be determined by certification, experience and in accordance with the MEA/HCISD Master Agreement.

The final candidate for this position will be required (at their cost) to furnish the Hillsdale County Intermediate School District with a current Michigan State Police and FBI criminal records.
