Position Summary

The Seasonal Rental Shop Supervisor assists the Guest Service Manager in overseeing rental shop operations during both the winter ski and snowboard season and the summer downhill mountain bike park season.

The role focuses on delivering exceptional guest service, ensuring equipment safety, and managing seasonal transitions. This position requires a strong understanding of both winter sports and mountain biking equipment and is available during peak seasons, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following :

Staff Supervision & Training

  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise seasonal rental shop staff for both winter and summer operations.
  • Conduct safety and equipment certification training, maintaining accurate training records.
  • Mentor and support staff, addressing performance issues and enforcing company policies as needed.

Customer Service

  • Ensure a high level of guest service, assisting with ski, snowboard, and bike equipment fittings and use.
  • Address and resolve guest complaints or issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Create a welcoming and safe atmosphere for guests and staff.

Equipment & Inventory Management

  • Oversee the maintenance and safety certification of ski, snowboard, and mountain bike rental equipment.
  • Track and manage rental inventory, coordinating equipment repairs and replacements as necessary.
  • Prepare the rental shop for seasonal transitions between winter and summer activities.

Operational Efficiency

  • Manage rental software, updating settings, and maintaining accurate rental records for all equipment.
  • Collaborate with other departments, like Ski School and the Ticket Office, to optimize operations.

Bike Shop Responsibilities

  • Supervise the rental and maintenance of downhill mountain bike equipment during the summer season.
  • Ensure proper servicing and safety checks of bikes, including brake, suspension, and drivetrain systems.
  • Prefer candidates with bike shop experience and knowledge of mountain bike maintenance and repair.

Administrative Duties

  • Maintain staff schedules, payroll records, and performance documentation for both seasons.
  • Monitor budgetary performance, managing expenses and labor costs according to seasonal needs.
  • Provide regular operational reports to the Guest Service Manager and assist with strategic planning.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college or technical coursework preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a rental shop or equipment management, with bike shop experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of both winter sports and mountain biking equipment, with a focus on safety standards.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and rental management software.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, emphasizing guest service and staff development.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding, fast-paced seasonal environment.
  • Must become a certified rental technician and maintain equipment safety certifications.
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate evening, weekend, and holiday shifts during peak seasons.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

This position splits time evenly between being outside on the mountain using ski equipment and around the base area, and inside within the Ski & Ride School facilities and offices.

Requires the ability to ski / ride for extended periods of time Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the functions.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.

The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must lift and / or move up to 75 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
