This position is located in beautiful Hilo, Hawaii
This position reports directly the CFO. Under minimal supervision, the employee in this position works with CFO on major economic and operational activities, plans and implements policies and procedures, maximizes return on investments and protects company assets.
Essential Functions and Duties:
- Oversee Accounting staff and functions. Indirectly overseas the accounts payable and receivable departments along with the Assistant Controller and directly overseas the Inventory Department.
- Establishes, or recommends to management major economic goals and policies for the company.
- Works closely with the CFO and advises on desirable operational adjustments due to tax code revisions.
- Maintains the checkbook register for all bank accounts to ensure accuracy and validity of all bank transactions and that they are posted into the General Ledger accordingly.
- Updates Cash Flow spreadsheet for weekly distribution to management team.
- Approves/processes wire/ACH payments and intercompany transfers.
- Prepares and supports balance sheet account reconciliations and analysis.
- Helps in managing operational data and ensuring data integrity and accuracy by developing internal control systems and adopting proper policies for financial reporting.
- Assists CFO in managing and analysis of company system hardware and software applications, including the Aspen Canopy applications.
- Helps and serves as back-up to the Assistant Controller in reconciling and filing general excise taxes and 1099 forms.
- Review and prepare monthly financial statements to ensure fairness and completeness of data, including account analysis and reconciliation, to make sure that transactions follow current GAAP guidelines. Present to the CFO for final review and approval.
- Works with outside Accounting Firm in the preparation of financial reviews/audits, tax filing requirements and PBC lists.
- Works with the Assistant Controller on contract audits.
- Supervises the Accounting Department which includes conducting regular department meetings.
- Helps in supplying technical support to the different entities.
- Special projects, as necessary.
Other Duties:
- Supports and serves as back-up for the Assistant Controller.
- Attends company meetings as needed.
- Helps other positions in the accounting department as needed.
Working Conditions:

- Inter-island travels as needed
Equipment Use:
- Proficient in the use of a computer, Microsoft Office, Excel Spreadsheets, Word documents, and other required software.
- Ability to use various office equipment, including but not limited to calculators, photocopiers, and facsimile machines.

Qualification Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field needed
- CPA or MBA preferred
- Exposure to finance and accounting systems
- Knowledge on current GAAP policies and procedures
- Minimum of six years related work experience.
- Minimum of two years of experience in a supervisory capacity
Skills:
- Strong Accounting background, including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Inventory Management, cost accounting, consolidations, and intercompany elimination.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
- Good judgement, planning skills, and leadership traits.
