Hino Motors Manufacturing is an OEM that assembles trucks in West Virginia, automotive components in Arkansas, and operates a parts distribution center in California.
We are currently looking for an AGM, Vehicle Regulatory Compliance for our Corporate office located in Novi, Michigan reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, Compliance.
Key responsibilities:
- Oversee engine and vehicle safety certification activities.
- Interface with NHTSA, EPA, CARB, and ECCC.
- Manage department, including meetings and performance reviews.
- Track regulatory trends and certification issues.
- Develop and manage Regulatory Trends Report.
- Collaborate with HMM/HML/HMS/HMC management on product and engineering designs.
- Prepare department budget and analyze variances.
- Manage evolving vehicle regulations (Emissions, GHG, Safety).
- Communicate with NHTSA, EPA, CARB, ECCC for certification and rulemaking.
- Report regulatory activities to Hino Motors Limited (HML).
- Attend trade organization meetings and provide updates to Hino globally.
- Support plant audits and compliance tests.
- Lead negotiations with EPA, CARB, NHTSA, ECCC.
Education & Experience Requirements:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in related engineering field is required. Graduate degree in engineering or law is preferred.
- 10 plus years of experience in automotive industry including 6 plus years of experience in the management of automotive regulatory affairs desired
- Experience working with regulatory agency (NHTSA, EPA, CARB, ECCC) regarding attaining and maintaining certification and understanding HD Vehicle related regulatory interpretation.
- English (written, spoken proficiency), Japanese language skills very beneficial
- Experience working in a global automotive corporate environment preferred.
Required Skills:
- Existing knowledge of related regulations and standards is strongly preferred
- Experience in conducting pre-regulatory research activities is preferred
- Experience in working collaboratively with regulatory agencies and industry colleagues
- Interpersonal skills primarily in working with regulatory agencies
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
- Project management skills
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments to meet deadlines and achieve targets
- Ability to identify and resolve problems

Travel Requirements:
- Willingness to travel to Japan and within North America
- Travel can be up to 33% for this position.
