Summary: The Jr Engineer uses expertise in hardware, firmware, software, and interpersonal skills to collaborate with customers on production plans for various systems.
Computer Systems Integration: Work with the Sales Program Manager and customers to confirm product requirements. The products include microprocessor appliances, embedded computers, and multiprocessor server systems. Responsibilities involve specifying hardware, BIOS, firmware, system imaging, packaging, and shipping.
New Product Introduction: Collaborate with the NPI team to formulate production plans. Prepare, review, and edit work instructions and process checklists. Develop test procedures and scripts, and specify required fixtures, tools, or test beds. Address production issues in collaboration with Operations Engineers and implement corrective actions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with customers to document system requirements.
- Lead development for integrating new customer products with off-the-shelf components.
- Create a Bill of Materials for new products.
- Develop automated validation and test procedures using WinPE scripts and vendor utilities.
- Design and structure manufacturing workflows for new products.
- Create and update technical documentation.
- Train production team on assembly and testing procedures.
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving production issues.
- Maintain the PXE-based WinPE test environment.
- Stay updated on vendor technology roadmaps.
- Work extra hours during peak production times.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Comprehensive understanding of computer hardware, including components’ functionality and compatibility such as CPU, motherboard, memory, storage/RAID/NVMe, I/O protocols, GPUs, PCI cards, air- and water-cooling systems.
- Proficient in computer assembly.
- Expertise in managing, installing, updating, and optimizing system BIOS and firmware.
- Experienced in installing and configuring MS Windows and various Linux operating systems.
- Skilled in using Windows CLI and batch scripting.
- Excellent analytical and technical problem-solving abilities.
- Superior oral and written communication skills with the ability to produce detailed reports.
- Strong proficiency in MS Word and Excel for writing, creating, and maintaining work instructions, process checklists, and other engineering documentation.
- Knowledgeable about ISO 9001/2015 and AS9100 standards.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment, exhibiting teamwork, cooperation, respect, and integrity towards colleagues and customers.
- Self-motivated, organized, and an effective communicator.
- Capable of adjusting and reprioritizing projects and tasks based on evolving production needs.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Experience with compliance standards and testing is advantageous.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Preferred: BS in ME/EE/Computer Science/Manufacturing or related field; trade/vocational school considered.
- Relevant work experience.
- Experience in PC assembly/manufacturing.
- Direct work or hobbyist experience valued.
- Mechanical experience is beneficial.
- Strong manufacturing knowledge.
- Experience working in a development environment.
- A Certification preferred.
