We are looking for a hands on but strategic thinking assistant corporate controller to join our client’s finance team based in Jersey City.
Our client is a leading manufacturer of specialty chemicals, serving many industries worldwide, including Coatings and Adhesives, Building and Construction, Packaging, Medical, and Automotive, manufacturing facilities spanning three continents.
Role and Responsibilities
Our ideal candidate will partner with management to provide critical insight and analysis of financial operations. In addition, the assistant corporate controller will challenge existing processes and enact the necessary changes needed to ensure the most optimal use of resources. This role will report to, actively partner and work with the Chief Financial Officer.
Essential functions and key projects will include:
- Directing all aspects of accounting & treasury operations and overseeing all transactions related to general ledger, receivables, payables, CIP & Fixed Assets, payroll and financial reporting. Ensure that all subledgers match to the corresponding GL account on the balance sheet.
- Manage a staff of accounting personnel both in the office and in remote locations
- Executing the monthly, quarterly and annual closings and ensuring that the consolidated financial statements are prepared in compliance with US GAAP
- Providing analysis of cash flow, operating costs and variances
- Overseeing cash reporting and monitoring and managing cash flow forecasting
- Providing monthly and quarterly bank reporting and ensuring covenants are met
- Evaluating all accounting processes and identifying opportunities to drive efficiencies without sacrificing the timeliness and accuracy of financial data being reported
- Aligning people, processes and systems to meet the current needs of the finance function while keeping an eye towards long-term scalability
- Manage and assist with the annual financial audit for each major entity
- Developing a thorough understanding of the company’s inventory accounting function and seeking opportunities to improve controls while minimizing risk. Ensure and work with the Plant manager for periodic cycle-counting, year around
- Assisting in the financial integration of company acquisitions
- Managing tax planning and compliance with all required federal, state, local, payroll, property and, other applicable taxes
- Maintaining and enhancing internal controls that verify the integrity of all accounting systems, processes and data
ESE (Education, Skills, Experience)
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting is required, while a CPA/CMA will be preferred.
- Experience with SAP is required.
- Approximately 6 to 10 years of progressive financial accounting and financial planning experience, preferably in the manufacturing industry.
- Candidates must be strong in Excel and adept at maximizing the utility of financial systems.
