Role: Assistant Controller
Salary: $90,000 yrly
Location: Newark, NJ
Onsite 5 days a week
Job Responsibilities:
Establish and maintain internal financial controls.
Update and manage the Finance Procedure Manual.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
Work with the Development Department to create budgets for new funding proposals.
Understand and follow grant budgeting guidelines, including submission and reporting requirements for both new and ongoing grants, ensuring alignment with funders' rules.
Monitor accounting processes to ensure accurate capture of grant expenditures.
Analyze grant spending, identify variances, and provide early warnings; make necessary adjustments.
Act as a liaison with the insurance broker for general insurance renewals.
Supervise two direct reports: Grants Manager and Accounting Analyst.
Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
Participate in annual audits and assist external auditors as needed.
Investigate and correct inaccuracies in financial records and implement process improvements.
Review payroll allocations and position assignments.
Handle special projects and financial analysis as requested by the CFO and Director of Finance.
Follow and implement company policies and procedures.
Maintain flexibility in work schedule as business needs change.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting; Master's Degree preferred.
5-7 years of experience in financial management, including financial analysis, reporting, nonprofit grant administration, budgeting, and internal controls.
Required Certifications:
Accounting certification (CPA, CMA, or CFM) preferred.
Skills and Knowledge:
Strong knowledge of GAAP and relevant regulations.
Proficient in complex financial systems.
Skilled in advanced Excel functions, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP.
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
Valid driver's license.

- the individual's skill sets, experience and training;
- licensure and certification requirements;
- office location and other geographic considerations;
- other business and organizational needs.
With that said, as required by local law, Vaco by Highspring believes that the following salary range referenced above reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
