About the Role
An exciting opportunity is available for a skilled and strategic Financial Controller to join our team. This role is pivotal in managing financial operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and providing insights that drive business decisions. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in construction accounting and financial analysis, a proven track record in cash flow management, regulatory compliance, and corporate accounting functions, and strong leadership skills to guide a high-performing finance team. In this role, you will lead a team of payroll, project accounting, billing, AP, and AR specialists while working closely with divisional managers and the CEO. Your contributions will directly impact the company's financial health and operational success.
Qualifications
- CPA designation with a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
- 7–10 years of finance leadership experience, ideally within the construction industry.
- Proficiency in construction accounting practices, including WIP and project accounting.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to provide actionable insights.
- Exceptional leadership and communication abilities to work across departments.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable (AP)
- Oversee the accounts payable function, including review, approval, and release of payments (AP, Payroll, Wires).
- Manage cash expenditures to align with cash flow guidelines.
- Mentor and manage AP staff to ensure efficient use of resources.
Accounts Receivable (AR)
- Manage AR and billing functions to ensure timely invoicing across multiple business units.
- Address escalated accounts and coordinate cross-functional AR and collections support.
- Mitigate AR and collections risk through policy management.
Payroll
- Supervise payroll operations for US and Canadian teams, including compliance with jurisdictional regulations.
- Ensure timely remittance of source deductions and certified payroll compliance.
- Administer commission policies for sales team members.
Treasury Management
- Monitor daily treasury KPIs and maintain a 13-week cash flow forecast.
- Oversee banking relationships and ensure compliance with financial covenants.
- Manage the company credit card program and reporting functions.
Accounting and Financial Reporting
- Lead the monthly close process to ensure accurate and timely financial statements.
- Prepare reconciliations and management reports for leadership.
- Collaborate with external accountants on annual reviews and audits.
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
- Manage budgeting and forecasting across multiple divisions.
- Analyze project margins, variances, and operational metrics.
- Partner with divisional managers on financial decision-making.
Tax and Compliance
- Oversee government tax filings and compliance with sales tax regulations.
- Ensure timely remittance and reporting of federal and state taxes.
- Maintain compliance with insurance policies and facilitate audits as needed.
Operational Support
- Contribute to bid estimates and proposal reviews.
- Offer insights during contractual reviews and project evaluations.
Technology Oversight
- Administer ERP systems and other financial software platforms.
- Ensure database integrity, manage backups, and troubleshoot system issues.
