Director of Biobanking
Position Summary
The Director/Manager of Lab Biobanking is responsible for ensuring the overall success of company-wide lab operations including, but not limited to, facilities and equipment, vendor relationships, records and document control, operations management, process management, cost control, quality management, generation and retention of clients, and staff development.
Experience and Requirements
Education & Experience:
- BA/BS degree required; a combination of education and at least 8 years of relevant scientific experience, preferably in biobanking.
Leadership Qualities:
- Self-motivated, professional leader with exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-driven environment.
Quality & Compliance:
- Proven experience in developing procedures and ensuring quality and regulatory compliance.
- Extensive knowledge of lab accreditations (e.g., CLIA, CAP) and regulatory standards.
Operational Knowledge:
- In-depth understanding of laboratory and biorepository operations, including specimen procurement, accessioning, and clinical annotation.
Supply Chain Expertise:
- Significant experience managing supply chains and procurement processes.
Availability:
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, and travel as needed.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and Internet tools.
- Experience with research informatics and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) for sample and clinical annotation management.

Biorepository Operations:
- Develop and manage biorepository operations, including:
- Research participant recruitment and consenting.
- Specimen procurement, accessioning, and clinical annotation processes.

Lab Management:
- Ensure optimal physical and environmental conditions for lab operations.
- Maintain an organized, accurate inventory of biospecimens.

- Contribute to the development, implementation, and management of the operations budget.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with expenditure requirements and productivity metrics.
