Overview
Position: Contract Trainer – Correctional Transition Instructor (CTI) Trainer
Location: Connecticut Department of Correction (CTDOC), CT (In-Person & Virtual Training)
Contract Duration: Dates to be determined, will execute training before – June 30, 2025
Compensation: Based on contractual agreement of 1000.00.

Job Overview:

Seeking an experienced Trainer to deliver professional learning sessions for Correctional Transition Instructors (CTIs) at Connecticut Department of Correction (CTDOC). The selected trainer will lead one in-person and one virtual training session focusing on:

  • De-escalation strategies for correctional educators
  • Special education mandates, including the Child Find Mandate
  • Compliance with state and federal correctional education laws
  • Co-teaching methodologies for incarcerated student instruction
  • Training Cirruiculum will be provided by The Paraeducator Professional Learning program.

The ideal candidate has experience in education, correctional training, workforce development, or professional learning, and is comfortable working within correctional facilities while adhering to security protocols and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver one in-person and one virtual training session for Correctional Transition Instructors (CTIs)

Session 1 (In-Person Training): Two-day program at CTDOC Central Office

  • Day 1: Planning and preparation (Review, plan and prepare for in person training using provided cirriculum.)
  • Day 2: In person Professional learning training for up to 8 CTI's (live instruction)

Session 2 (Virtual Training): Two-day program with:

  • Day 1: In-person planning and preparation at CTDOC Central Office.(Review, plan and prepare for in virtual training using provided cirriculum.)
  • Day 2: Virtual professional learning training via a secure online platform (for up to 8 CTI's)
  • Provide engaging instruction on:
  • De-escalation techniques
  • Special education mandates (Child Find Mandate)
  • Compliance with correctional education policies
  • Co-teaching strategies in correctional settings
  • Utilize a secure, correctional-compliant virtual training platform for remote instruction
  • Ensure training aligns with state laws and correctional facility protocols
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to compliance standards, including HIPAA, PREA, and CTDOC security policies
  • Submit training completion reports, attendance records, and necessary documentation

Certification Requirements

Required Training (Mandatory):

De-escalation and Crisis Intervention Training – Candidates must have completed formal training in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques relevant to correctional or educational settings.

  • Acceptable training programs may include:
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Certification
  • Handle With Care Behavior Management System
  • Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI)
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI)

Mandatory Compliance Knowledge Areas (No Specific Certification Required):

  • Special Education Compliance (Child Find Mandate) – Candidates must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the Child Find Mandate and special education regulations but do not need a specific certification.
  • Correctional Facility Compliance Standards – Candidates must adhere to PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act), HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), and correctional security regulations but are not required to have separate certifications.
  • If selected, candidates must follow security protocols and may be required to undergo in-house training by CTDOC on these standards.

Preferred Certifications (Not Required, But Beneficial)

Certified Professional Development Trainer (CPDT) – Indicates expertise in delivering workforce development and professional learning sessions.
Certified Correctional Trainer (CCT) – Demonstrates experience in training correctional educators or correctional facility personnel.
Certified Special Education Advocate – Showcases expertise in special education law compliance and advocacy.

Experience Requirements:

Minimum Required Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in education, correctional training, special education, or workforce training
  • Experience providing professional development or instructional training in compliance-based environments
  • Experience facilitating both in-person and virtual training programs

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior experience training correctional staff or educators working with incarcerated individuals
  • Familiarity with state and federal education compliance training
  • Experience in trauma-informed education, conflict resolution, or workforce development
  • Ability to utilize secure virtual training platforms for instruction

Security & Compliance Requirements:

✔ Must pass a CTDOC background check and meet state security clearance requirements
✔ Familiarity with Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), HIPAA, and correctional security protocols
✔ Adherence to confidentiality laws and data security protocols

Employment Type & Compensation:

Contract-Based Position aligned with CTDOC requirements
✔ Compensation is based on training session completion ($1,000 total)
✔ Payment is contingent on training completion and documentation submission

  • This role requires two (2) training sessions for Correctional Transition Instructors (CTIs):

One (1) in-person training session.
One (1) virtual training session.

For each training session:
✅ You must complete one (1) day of planning and preparation before delivering the session.
✅ Planning and preparation must be done in person at CTDOC Central Office before each training session.
✅ Training curriculum and materials will be provided at the CTDOC Central Office. (You must review, plan and prepare the training curriculum for use.)
