Childcare Food Prep/Server

We are seeking a Daycare Food Prep/Server. Center hours are 6:30 am - 6:00 pm. Hours for this position are somewhat negotiable. This individual would split time between preparing and delivering meals to classrooms, doing dishes, and keeping a clean and organized kitchen space. This position could be full time or part time.

Job description

The food prep/server is responsible for preparing simple meals and serving attractive, nutritionally balanced meals for the children. This position is responsible for maintaining high standards of quality food production and portion control using standard recipes and also for appropriate quantities of food needed to meet menu requirements. This position also performs a variety of maintenance tasks such as sweeping, light mopping, and maintaining refrigerators, freezers and store rooms in a neat and clean order.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Food Preparation and Serving

· Under direction of the Director, plans, prepares and serves attractive and nutritionally balanced meals for the children, promoting and reinforcing good nutritional habits; trying new foods, portion control and a balanced diet.

· Ensure that food supplies are securely and neatly stored, organized, and labeled.

· Will dress appropriately per facility dress code and maintain a clean appearance

· Using proper dish washing methods.

· Ensuring that all kitchen, cooking related areas, and equipment are clean and in good working order at all times.

· Prepare supply lists/orders weekly to be reviewed and submitted by the Director

· Provide food/meal substitutions for children with allergies and/or intolerances

Other:

· Attend staff training as necessary or required.

· Attend appropriate staff meetings as assigned.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Capability of preparing food for a large amount of people (summer time- approximately 170 people and school year- approximately 130 people). Ability to work 8:00 am -2:00 pm, additional hours may be available upon job performance.

Education/Experience:

· A High School Diploma or GED is required.

· Two years’ experience cooking for and serving large groups of people is preferred.

· Must be at least 18 years of age.

· Must pass Background Check

· Must maintain CPR/First Aid certification

· Must complete online Mandated Reporter Training Course within first 90 days of employment.

Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities:

· Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.

· Knowledge of recipe development, general nutrition and large quantity food preparation.

· Knowledge of and ability to apply basic food preparation methods.

· Ability to maintain all equipment used in cooking, food preparation, food storage and cleaning/sanitation in a safe and efficient manner.

· Ability to adapt to changes (i.e. food substitutions and numbers served).

· Good written and oral communications skills.

· Good organizational skills.

· Knowledge of basic mathematics, including addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.
