About the Fort Pitt Museum
The Fort Pitt Museum, located in historic Point State Park in downtown Pittsburgh, is a two-floor, 12,000-square-foot museum that tells the story of Western Pennsylvania’s pivotal role during the French & Indian War, the American Revolution, and as the birthplace of Pittsburgh. The strategic location of the fort – at the Forks of the Ohio River – helped to shape the course of American and world history. First opened in 1969 in a reconstructed bastion, the Fort Pitt Museum provides visitors with a rich understanding of the world-changing events that occurred right here in Western Pennsylvania. Through interactive exhibitions, life-like historical figures, and recently added artifacts, visitors will learn the important role our region played in shaping the United States.

The Senator John Heinz History Center, the largest history museum in Pennsylvania and an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, is seeking a Living History Program Coordinator for the Fort Pitt Museum to work, 9:00AM -5:30PM including weekend workdays. While these are the primary hours for this position, flexibility is expected as Fort Pitt Museum business dictates.
The Living History Program Coordinator is responsible for providing high-quality educational programming including school tours, outreach programs, scouts, homeschool programming, and teacher training. In addition, the Living History Program Coordinator conducts regular Living History Programs on the weekends including historic weapons demonstrations along with firing the museum’s reproduction 6lb cannon.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Education and Living History Program Manager.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience, with a passion for colonial history, period trade knowledge such as tailoring, blacksmithing, carpentry a plus. The job requires the ability to be both a multi-team player as well as function independently with a lot of self-motivation. This position is physically demanding requiring extensive, lifting, bending, walking, and standing. The job also requires the ability for an attention to detail and the ability to notice what must be done without being told. The successful candidate will possess a love for colonial history and an eye for detail. Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
