Summary
The Fire Safety Manager serves as the expert for the fire protection, occupancy classification, water supplies, and emergency response readiness within an EV battery manufacturing facility. This position is responsible for fire prevention, suppression, emergency response, and maintaining fire protection equipment to safeguard personnel, assets, and operations. The role requires specialized knowledge of fire hazards associated with lithium-ion battery manufacturing and compliance with local, state, and federal fire safety regulations.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive fire protection program in compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and other relevant fire safety regulations.
- Maintain and inspect fire suppression systems, including sprinklers, fire extinguishers, hydrants, and gas detection systems.
- Develop and implement fire safety protocols and emergency response plans.
- Conduct fire risk analysis related to lithium-ion battery production and storage.
- Develop and manage hot work permitting program and ensure proper fire watch procedures.
- Respond immediately to fire alarms, hazardous material spills, and other emergency situations.
- Execute fire suppression techniques using various firefighting equipment, including hoses, extinguishers, and foam systems.
- Assist in evacuations and rescue operations in case of fire-related emergencies.
- Collaborate with local fire departments and emergency response teams during incidents.
- Conduct fire safety training and drills for employees to improve emergency preparedness.
- Educate staff on proper fire prevention techniques and evacuation procedures.
- Participate in regular fire simulation drills and continuous education programs.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections of firefighting and emergency response equipment.
- Maintain records of fire incidents, inspections, drills, and training sessions.
- Ensure all fire detection and suppression systems are operational at all times.
Qualifications & Skills:
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Occupational Safety, or a related field is a plus.
- Certified Firefighter (NFPA, IFSAC, or ProBoard) preferred.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required.
- Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) training.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience as a firefighter, fire safety or emergency response professional.
- Experience in industrial or manufacturing fire safety is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of lithium-ion battery fire risks and suppression techniques preferred.
- Strong knowledge of National Fire Codes, ADA, OSHA Standards, NFPA, Georgia Building Codes and local fire safety regulations.
- Ability to respond quickly and effectively in high-stress emergency situations.
- Hands-on experience with fire suppression systems and emergency response equipment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Physically fit to handle firefighting duties, including carrying heavy equipment and working in hazardous environments.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
- Must be able to work in an industrial setting with potential exposure to high temperatures, hazardous materials, and loud noise.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and wear full protective firefighting gear.
- May require shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
