Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Summary:
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining small tractors and their attachments, including tillers, snowplows, zero-turn mowers, and bush hogs. This role ensures that equipment is used safely and efficiently to complete various landscaping, agricultural, and maintenance tasks. The ideal candidate has strong technical skills, experience with small machinery, and a commitment to safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Equipment Operation:
- Operate small tractors and attachments, including tillers, snowplows, zero-turn mowers, and bush hogs.
- Perform tasks such as tilling soil, snow removal, mowing lawns, and clearing brush.
- Follow project plans and instructions to complete tasks accurately and efficiently.
- Maintenance and Inspection:
- Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
- Keep equipment clean, fueled, and in good working condition.
- Report any malfunctions or needed repairs to the supervisor.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Participate in safety training and meetings.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Project Support:
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to ensure project goals are met.
- Communicate effectively to understand project requirements and provide updates on progress.
- Assist with manual labor tasks as needed, such as site preparation and cleanup.
- Ensure the work site is organized and free of hazards.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in operating small tractors and related attachments preferred.
- Knowledge of equipment maintenance and repair.
- Ability to operate various types of small machinery safely and effectively.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations and procedures.
- Physical stamina and the ability to perform strenuous tasks.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).
- Ability to sit, stand, and operate equipment for extended periods.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.).
- Good vision and hearing to operate equipment safely.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no supervisory.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Regular commute to primary work location is not considered travel.
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
