PHYSICIAN PEER REVIEW COORDINATOR - MEDICAL STAFF OFFICE

Salary Range: $32.2800 - $49.6400 /hour. Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, skill level, and education.
Under the direction of the Supervisor, Peer Review Program, the Peer Review Coordinator assists in the fulfillment of responsibilities in support of an effective and continuously improving medical staff peer review program. Responsibilities of this role are directly related to coordinating effective physician peer review to assess the quality of medical care by performing a critical review, utilizing skills and knowledge of clinical care guidelines and national priorities for care.
Assists in ensuring that the peer review activities of the medical staff organization are timely and meet all internal requirements (bylaws, rules and regulations, policies, procedures) and are compliant with external accreditation standards, state laws and Medicare Conditions of Participation. Key functions include:
Performs an objective medical record review of each case identified regarding appropriateness of patient care based on evidence-based outcomes and clinical guidelines working with the department chairman, Director of Medical Staff Services and Physician Peer Review Committee to identify opportunities to improve and/or educational/training needs.
Assists Department and Committee Chairperson or designated physician peer reviewer in case review performance and documentation.
Responsible for facilitating current physician performance evaluation activities in accordance with Joint Commission requirements including preparation of case summaries and accurate timely documentation for every case review for each medical staff department and committee involved in monitoring/improving quality and appropriateness of care.
Utilizes superior discretion and ability to maintain confidential, sensitive physician peer review information. Use appropriate safeguards to prevent inappropriate use or disclosure of confidential case review information. Report all opportunities identified to improve processes policy/procedures.
Coordinates and/or attends department and committee meetings. Prepares with preparation of agenda and materials for presentation. Records minutes at specified committee meetings. Works collaboratively with a wide range of healthcare professionals including providers other healthcare leaders and medical records personnel. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Required :
High School diploma, GED or California High Proficiency
At least one (1) year of experience in an acute-care setting
Computer literate (databases) and highly proficient with Microsoft products, including Word, Excel and Outlook
Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology
Preferred :
Associate’s degree in a healthcare-related body of study; Two (2) years of experience in an acute-care setting
Experienced user of Electronic Health Records (EHR)
EPIC experience
Experience in database management
Experience with presentation software, e.g., PowerPoint and Visio
Certifications Preferred
Verified certificate in medical terminology
Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ)
Certified Professional Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) or Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM).
