Hobby Lobby Distribution is responsible for receiving, storing and shipping merchandise to all of Hobby Lobby's 1,000 retail stores around the country. Hobby Lobby Distribution has one central Distribution Center, with 11 buildings comprising over 12 million square feet.
These buildings contain 50 miles of conveyor; several automated picking systems; automated vehicles and storage / retrieval systems; 600 pieces of lift and transportation equipment; and other industrial machinery.
The Hobby Lobby Mechanical Engineering Department is responsible for the design, installation, maintenance and improvement of all industrial equipment and material handling equipment for Hobby Lobby Distribution.
The responsibilities of Hobby Lobby Mechanical Engineers include, but are not limited to :
- Procuring data, and analyzing that data in order to recommend process improvements.
- Improving the safety and function of existing automated systems using industrial controls, software applications and mechanical design.
- Working together with Industrial Engineering, Software Engineering, Operations and Management to plan and design systems for material handling and warehouse support.
- Managing installation and commissioning of automated systems and equipment.
- Supporting maintenance managers and maintenance technicians.
