Camp Wiggi at the Bernon Family Branch of the Hockomock Area YMCA is hiring a Ropes Course Specialist (RCS) for Summer 2025!
The RCS will oversee the operation of the ropes course, including both high and low elements, ensuring a safe and engaging experience for summer campers ages 8-15. This role is responsible for setting up, planning, and guiding participants through a series of programmed elements designed to build self-confidence, foster positive group dynamics, and enhance problem-solving skills.
Safety is a top priority—the RCS ensures the physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being of all participants. This seasonal position runs from June to August, with an expected schedule of 25-30 hours per week during the camp season.
Essential Functions
- Maintain daily ropes course operations while adhering to local operating procedures.
- Prepare the course for use, ensure proper takedown, and store equipment securely at the end of each session.
- Communicate effectively with Camp Directors and colleagues to coordinate programming.
- Lead both large and small groups through a progression of team-building activities, low ropes elements, high challenge course elements, and reflective discussions tailored to program goals.
- Facilitate programs in a safe, inclusive, and goal-oriented environment.
- Utilize the ropes course as a tool to help participants recognize and safely reach their potential, fostering self-confidence, positive group dynamics, and problem-solving skills.
- Assist with and participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities.
- Encourage meaningful reflection and discussion, helping participants integrate their experiences into their daily lives.
