Job Summary:
Provide leadership and direction to the Operations Department in order to obtain optimum use of all Hoekstra Transportation assets and resources by performing or directing the following duties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all dispatches so freight is picked up and delivered on time, as promised, to the customer. This involves outlining procedures that guarantee proper freight selection, preplanning, load assignment to driver, enroute driver supervision, and delivery at consignee.
- Enforce compliance with safety rules, administrative policies, procedures, and governmental regulations.
- Manage work performance of operations personnel to achieve desired levels of performance and optimal business results.
- Regularly evaluate inbound backhaul opportunities to optimize costs and maximize truck utilization.
- Monitor daytime and nighttime dispatch to maintain effective coverage of transportation activities and customer service.
- Direct the investigations of customer or shipper complaints and respond in a manner that protects Hoekstra Transportation’s integrity, acting as escalation point to resolve all service issues.
- Monitor and improve fleet/equipment utilization and fuel efficiency.
- Review active freight bookings and current trailer pools to satisfy customer needs and resolve all operational issues.
- Identify opportunities for business growth and solicit freight from the best customers in the best lanes and geographic locations for Hoekstra Transportation.
- Work closely with recruiting personnel to orient and train new drivers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and one year experience preferred.
- Experience supervising, coaching, and developing staff.
- Experience in transportation industry, including knowledge of transportation regulations and compliance.
- Fulfill the expectations and requirements from the FMCSA and DOT CSA initiative.
- Commitment to excellence and desire for continuous learning.
- Cultivate and maintain strong customer relationships.
- Develop effective working relationships with current staff, new recruits, and business partners.
- Good listener and problem solver.
- Strong knowledge of time/distance geography.
- Quick thinking and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, demanding environment.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
