Position Title Director, Clinical Skills, Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra / Northwell Position Number 897094 Position Category School / Division School of Medicine Department Full-Time or Part-Time Full-Time Description Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Clinical Skills and Professionalism, the Director of Clinical Skills is responsible for leading the first- and second- 100-weeks clinical skills team in the design, assessment, and continual improvement of clinical skills curricular sessions (including physical diagnosis, clinical learning, clinical reasoning, oral presentations, and clinical documentation) and assessments that are developmentally appropriate for learners across the four-year continuum. This position is at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The individual in this role dedicates up to 0.4 FTE to clinical activities at Northwell Health.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
- Develops, implements, and refines innovative assessments of clinical competence, including history-taking, physical examination, differential diagnosis development, oral and written presentations, and patient-centered communication across the four-year medical education program.
- Collaborates with Clinical Skills Center staff at CLI to establish and enhance a standardized patient program and ongoing quality improvement initiatives.
- Leads the Clinical Learning Integration team, ensuring synergy and integration across all phases of medical education.
- Contributes to the development and revision of learning objectives and session design for physical diagnosis, clinical learning, clinical reasoning, oral presentations, and clinical documentation.
- Develops formative and summative clinical skills assessments in partnership with course, clerkship, and component directors.
- Provides feedback on student performance to faculty for continuous quality improvement of clinical curricula and assessment.
- Coordinates RIA simulation and OSCE case topics with MHDI course directors in the first 100 weeks.
- Oversees scoring of assessments within the clinical skills domain.
- Collaborates with the Office of Educational Data and Analytics to refine standards for clinical skills assessments and monitor student progress in achieving milestones.
- Supervises clinical skills faculty team members.
- Provides orientation and ongoing faculty development for clinical skills educators to support effective teaching and assessment.
- Oversees coaching and remediation for students needing additional support.
- Serves as Family Head, facilitating Communications, Clinical Learning, and Patient, Physician, and Society (PPS) sessions, as well as precepting clinical skills exams.
- Facilitates physical diagnosis sessions.
- Participates as teaching faculty in simulation debriefs, core learning, ACE rounds, PEARLS, and Structure as needed.
- Attends faculty development sessions.
- Engages in medical education scholarship related to curricular work.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
