Description
Reporting to the Biology Laboratory Director, the Laboratory Course Technician will work with faculty and a part-time technician to organize laboratory materials for several undergraduate classes including Microbiology, Introductory Biology, and occasional upper-level biology labs. The position will begin mid-January 2025.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Prepares media and microbial cultures for microbiology laboratory classes.
Prepares solutions, molecular reagents, and other materials necessary for various laboratory classes in collaboration with the part-time laboratory technician.
Organizes and maintains adequate stocks of lab chemicals and general laboratory supplies.
Monitors and performs routine maintenance and cares of scientific equipment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required.
Minimum 1 year microbiology and molecular biology experience (as a student or through employment).
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software.
Experience with common molecular biology and microbiology laboratory equipment and procedures.
Successful candidates will have demonstrated a commitment to promoting equity, diversity and inclusion in an educational environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree and/or commensurate experience preferred.
Molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, or microbiology research experience.

Salary/Salary Range
$53,000 - $56,000

Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education. In addition to the salary offered, we offer a collegial and inclusive culture, and a benefits program which includes generous paid time off, paid holidays, tuition remission for employees and eligible dependents, and a retirement plan with University contributions.
Salary ranges indicated for positions covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement are in accordance with the CBA.
