JOB TITLE: MENTAL HEALTH SPECIALIST (GRANT FUNDED POSITIONS)
3-Contracted Positions
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under general supervision, performs a variety of professional, administrative, and leadership
work to lead and coordinate activities in the area of Student Services for Hoke County Schools.
These positions will work with the district lead mental health coordinator to provide mental
health services and prevention efforts, to students in the school system. Reports to the
Executive of Director of Student Support Services and the District Lead Mental Health
Coordinator.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS.
-Ensures the implementation of required policies and procedures affecting students and/or in need
of intervention support.
-Coordinates training, support staff in recognizing and addressing trauma.
-Responds to mental health crises and provides direct support to students.
-Provides linkages to mental health resources.
-Assists in the collection and analysis of data needed for the purpose of planning, reporting,
securing services, and making decisions.
-Facilitates the dissemination of best practices regarding behavioral and mental health supports.
-Establishes and maintains an on-going system of communication with school personnel and
parents.
-Serves as a resource for principals, teachers, school staff and families regarding students with
significant mental health needs. Provides recommendations, strategies and community resources
to staff and families.
-Ensure successful outcomes for students with mental health needs.
-Utilizes collaborative approaches for involving all stakeholders in educational planning,
implementation and evaluation.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
-Performs other related work as required.
-Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor and Director of
Support Services.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a related field, and at least 3-5 years of
successful experience with students that have disabilities; or any equivalent combination of
training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Background
and experience in mental health services preferred.
