What are the responsibilities and job description for the Event Supervisor position at Holden Michael Events?
Holden Michael Events is an event planning and venue management firm, overseeing 65-75 events each summer, including all private events at The Felt Estate in Holland.
Position: Event Supervisor
Reports to: The Event Supervisor will report to the Event Manager and Creative Director.
Description: The Event Supervisor is the onsite manager during private events at The Felt Estate and is responsible for ensuring the client’s happiness as well as maintaining the estate in its proper working order. The Event Supervisor will regularly interact with clients and their guests, and supervises the Event Assistant.
Experience: 2 years in customer service and/or events. Supervisory experience preferred.
Duration: This is a seasonal position, May-October, 2025.
Compensation: $20.00/hour.
Hours: Approximately 16-24 hours each weekend (Friday-Sunday) and 1 hour on weekdays for standing weekly prep meeting.
The Felt Estate Duties:
- Greet clients upon arrival.
- Provide exemplary hospitality, assisting clients as requested.
- Ensure clients feel comfortable and cared for.
- Be readily available via radio and text to respond to clients and vendors.
- Direct Event Assistants to help accomplish tasks.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the estate during private rentals, including the grounds, tent, and carriage house.
- Provide excellent customer service to clients and their guests.
- Check layout(s) for each event to ensure the estate is properly set prior to the client’s arrival.
- Regularly walk the property and buildings to ensure they remain in proper working order. This includes restocking restrooms, taking out and replacing trash bags, refilling soap dispensers, etc.
- Open and close tent sides.
- Anticipate client, guest, and vendor needs.
- Provide historical context and overview of the estate to guests when asked.
- Enforce estate policies.
- Open chapel for ceremony rehearsals, as scheduled.
- Other duties, as assigned.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Has experience in both customer service and events (2 years).
- Has supervisory experience.
- Enjoys assisting others, no matter how large or small the task.
- Is able to quickly make decisions and take charge of a situation.
- Is able to delegate.
- Will take ownership of each event and the client’s experience.
- Is empathetic toward clients, and understands that events can be stressful.
- Will have reliable transportation.
- Welcomes and celebrates all couples regardless of race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender identity, or gender expression.
- Will have excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Is detail-oriented.
- Is able to work weekends (most events occur on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday and a shift will typically last 6-8 hours).
- Must be able to stand for an extended period of time (5 hours).
- Is able to work in a variety of environments and conditions (outdoors, rain, etc.).
- Possess excellent customer service skills.
- Is able to maintain a calm demeanor in a high-energy environment.
- Is able to climb many flights of stairs.
- Is able to lift 50lbs.
- Is able to retain historical facts.
