Overview:
We are looking for a skilled cook with bartending experience who possesses a passion for food, strong time management skills, and the ability to provide our guests with an exceptional drinking and dining experience here at Atwell Suites KCI. The employee in this role will be cross-trained on both front and back-of-the-house operations and will be expected to jump in and assist where needed.
Primary Cook Duties and Responsibilities:
- Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment.
- Measure and mix ingredients according to recipe to prepare various menu items.
- Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.); check the quality of ingredients prior to use.
- Cook food with various utensils or grillers; check food while cooking to stir or turn.
- Follow proper procedures in handling food to ensure health and sanitation guidelines are met.
- Use tools and equipment properly to ensure safety and avoid injury or damage to equipment.
- Assist in unloading trucks that arrive with supplies; store and rotate inventory.
- Clean work area, freezers, kitchen area, and dish area to ensure proper cleanliness is maintained; keep a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen.
- Ensure all food and other items are stored properly.
- Demonstrate a professional and pleasant demeanor when interacting with visitors, vendors, and associates.
Primary Bartending Duties and Responsibilities:
- Use great customer service skills by greeting guests pleasantly as they approach the bar, taking and preparing their orders promptly, and creating an overall friendly interaction.
- Prepare beverages as requested using established pouring standards and drink recipes to provide a consistent product to the guests and to control costs.
- Accurately process all cash and credit card transactions using established procedures.
- Monitor guest behavior and guest alcohol consumption to determine when alcohol service to the guest should cease; notify management of incidents involving excessive alcohol consumption or impaired conditions of guests.
- Check guest identification in accordance with federal law.
- Follow established Hotel safety protocols and procedures at all times; immediately report any safety/service incident to the supervisor or manager on duty.
- Take action to solve guest problems/complaints using appropriate service recovery guidelines.
- Set up the bar accurately and efficiently with all liquor, mixers, ice, garnishes, glassware, and supplies.
- Perform pre- and post-shift procedures.
- Ensure that all liquor is properly secured before, during, and after every shift.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1-2 years of experience in a similar food service, kitchen, or line cook role is preferred; 1 year of experience in a bartending role is preferred; a combination of 1-2 years in kitchen/food service/line cook/bartending role is required.
- Must be 21 years or older!
- Cash handling experience is preferred.
- Must have a food handler’s card.
- Ability to stand for extended periods/excellent physical condition and stamina.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
