THE ROLE


We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Plant Engineer to oversee engineering and enhance operations at our metals recovery facility. The ideal candidate will hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering and possess a deep understanding of mechanical systems and processes involved in separating ferrous and non-ferrous metals from waste streams. This role will lead efforts to bring the plant online by overseeing the design, construction, and commissioning processes while ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards. Following startup, the Plant Engineer will serve as the key technical resource in optimizing plant performance, troubleshooting mechanical equipment, and leading continuous improvement initiatives to ensure efficiency and sustainability. 


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Observe and support day-to-day plant operations to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency
  • Collaborate with contractors, project managers, and stakeholders to review and execute plant design specifications and blueprints
  • Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of equipment and systems, ensuring adherence to schedule, budget, and regulatory requirements 
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to meet production goals and improve throughput
  • Develop and implement maintenance plans, including predictive and preventive strategies, to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime. 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and process-related issues, providing technical expertise during both project and operational phases
  • Analyze plant performance data to identify opportunities for process and equipment improvement. Lead initiatives to implement engineering best practices, enhance production processes, and optimize maintenance
  • Develop and implement strategies to maximize metal recovery rates while minimizing waste
  • Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of mechanical systems and components
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for mechanical equipment, minimizing downtime
  • Evaluate and recommend upgrades or replacements for aging machinery
  • Ensure all plant operations comply with local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations
  • Maintain detailed engineering documentation, including technical drawings, maintenance records, and project progress reports
  • Promote a culture of safety, conducting regular audits and training sessions
  • Provide technical guidance to operators and maintenance staff
  • Train team members on equipment operation, troubleshooting, and best practices
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Minimum of 3-5 years in a production engineering role within a metals recovery, recycling, or industrial facility
  • Proven experience managing engineering projects, including equipment selection, installation, and commissioning
  • Hands-on experience with clarifiers, ball mills, star screens, eddy current tables, or similar machinery
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical operations, troubleshooting, and process optimization
  • Proficiency in designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting industrial systems, including hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical components, as well as AutoCAD or SolidWorks
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems and advanced maintenance strategies like predictive diagnostics are a plus 
  • Familiarity with industrial automation and control systems is a plus
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams and driving operational excellence
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Safety certifications (e.g., OSHA 30, CSP) or project management certifications (e.g., PMP) are preferred
  • Background in metals recovery, heavy industrial environments, or energy efficiency initiatives is highly desirable

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Environmental conditions - Must work outside in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and extreme heat. 
  • May at times be exposed to dangerous and/or toxic substances and must take necessary precautions to protect eyes, nose and skin from irritation and infection
  • Mental demands- Conditions that may lead to mental or emotional fatigue
  • Occasionally lift and carry materials or tools weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Climb on and around equipment and sit for long periods while operating equipment
  • Walk and stand for long periods of time
  • Able to climb a minimum of 2 story of stairs
  • Willingness to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, during construction, commissioning, or critical plant operations

Pay: Salary plus opportunity for performance bonus

Location: Lost Hills, CA

Travel: Travel will be required for training during the first, 6-9 months of employment
