Position Overview
We are seeking a Community Outreach Specialist to lead public engagement efforts for transportation and infrastructure projects. This role involves developing and executing outreach strategies, fostering relationships with community stakeholders, and ensuring that public information efforts are inclusive, effective, and aligned with project goals. The ideal candidate has a minimum of one year of experience in transportation construction project public information.
Key Responsibilities
Community Engagement & Outreach Strategy:
- Develop and implement community engagement plans for transportation, transit, and infrastructure projects.
- Identify and engage key stakeholders, including residents, business owners, community leaders, and advocacy groups.
- Organize and facilitate public meetings, open houses, and pop-up events to inform and gather feedback from the community.
- Monitor public sentiment and concerns, ensuring stakeholder input is documented and communicated to project teams.
Public Communications & Messaging:
- Develop outreach materials, including fact sheets, newsletters, presentations, and digital content.
- Collaborate with the communications team to create social media posts, email campaigns, and website updates.
- Ensure public messaging is clear, culturally appropriate, and accessible to diverse audiences.
- Serve as a key point of contact for public inquiries, addressing concerns professionally and proactively.
Project Coordination & Reporting:
- Coordinate with government agencies, contractors, and project teams to align outreach efforts with project milestones.
- Track engagement metrics and prepare reports summarizing outreach activities, public feedback, and community concerns.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- 1 year of experience in transportation construction public information.
- Strong public speaking and facilitation skills.
- Experience developing and executing public outreach campaigns using multiple communication channels.
- Knowledge of government processes, public policy, and stakeholder engagement best practices.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to evolving community needs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with social media platforms and design tools (Canva, Adobe Suite, etc.).
- Bilingual skills (Spanish, Creole, etc.) are a plus but not required.
