What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Counselor position at Holy Comforter Episcopal School?
Under the direction of the Director of Extended Day, the Summer Camp Counselor will help to maintain a safe, engaging environment ensuring a high level of quality and working to establish a positive relationship with all summer camp participants, faculty and staff. Counselors will provide a positive, Christian role model to HCES students within the scope of the HCES Mission, Vision and Philosophy. This camp is for students in grades PK through 5th grade.
Responsibilities:
- Follow daily routines and schedules of Summer Camp (Camp Crusader).
- Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing activities and tasks.
- Facilitate activities in a developmentally appropriate manner.
- Actively supervise students during all activities, including emergency drills.
- Assist in the care and upkeep of the school campus, classrooms, playgrounds, and camp materials.
- Demonstrate high quality and consistent work methods.
- Report to work on time and as scheduled. Follow appropriate procedures to request leave if necessary.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
- Create an environment conducive to learning and fun that is appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of the students.
- Manage students’ behavior and administer discipline according to school policies and summer camp guidelines.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to provide a safe environment and protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Follow radio procedures as outlined in the policies and procedures.
- Communicate regularly with the Director and Assistant Director regarding the progress and behavior of the students.
- Maintain a professional relationship and open lines of communication with co-workers, teachers, students, parents and community members.
- Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Follow the policies established by law including the Episcopal Diocese of Florida, the HCES Board of Trustees, and the summer camp program.
- Accurately check-in/check-out students daily, following appropriate procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality standards regarding students.
- Dress appropriately according to the faculty/staff dress code outlined in the personnel policies and procedures manual.
