Typical Schedule: This is a part-time position, approximately 22 hours/week for the 31 weeks encompassing two semesters, beginning August 2025.
Purpose: Reporting to the Director of Library Services, the Library Technician performs a variety of library and technical support duties within one or more functional areas of the library. The Library Technician is responsible for supervising the library during the day when the director is offsite, providing patron services, overseeing the circulation and reserves functions, stack maintenance, and assisting in the organization of library materials.
Essential Job Duties:
- Act as the person in charge when the director is absent from the library during their shift.
- Answer reference questions using standard print and on-line reference sources.
- Perform circulation procedures including overdue material, fees, and interlibrary loans.
- Work with faculty to place requested materials on reserve in a timely manner.
- Assist in processing new books after they are cataloged.
- Assist in the weeding of books from the collection.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education, Skills, and Ability:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Requires skill and understanding of established library methods, procedures, and the use of specific library tools.
- Ability to be courteous, tactful, warm, and welcoming with the student population.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Work cooperatively with other members of the college community.
- Learn and develop proficiency in the use of the library’s online systems and resources.
- Ability to meet needs of users in a timely manner and without judgment.
- Ability to work independently with little direction
