Switchboard Operator processes all calls made to switchboard and acts as a general liaison between the public and Holy Name Hospital.
What You Will Do
- Answers telephone calls in a clear and concise manner and provides necessary information in a courteous and professional manner.
- Advances callers to appropriate destination numbers.
- Processes patient requests through computerized telephone system, for installation of patient telephones.
- Disconnects telephone service determined by IBM daily discharge list.
- Initiates opening and closing of patient’s phones according designated time of service.
- Enters required data in various computerized voice/data systems.
- Orally telephones patients informing them of telephone service and dialing in various computerized voice/data systems
- Telephones patients to inform them of telephone service and dialing instructions.
- Responds in a timely and professional manner to various emergency alarm systems and notifies designated personnel. In addition, announces emergency codes over paging system in a calm, clear professional manner.
- Demonstrates effective oral communication skills.
- Monitors lists of all current on-call emergency services and maintains correct beeper and home phone numbers.
- Understands all disaster plan policies and procedures and is able to implement all necessary responses accordingly.
- Forwards all necessary repair requests and handicap equipment requests to the Director/Technician of Communications.
- Follows the instruction and guidance given By the Director of Communication.
- Informs Director of all patient or staff complaints or concerns.
- Performs any related duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent Required
- Trained and experienced on computerized PBX switchboards Required and
- Computerized data entry experience is a plus Preferred
- A proven record of excellent verbal communication skills.
- Fluency in Spanish is a plus
