Description
Holy Rosary Parish adjoins St. Mary’s University, San Antonio, and both are animated by the Society of Mary, Marianist. The community celebrates three Sunday liturgies, one of them in Spanish. Adult Faith Formation has been assisted by the ACTS retreat program. The Youth Ministry program comprises a Youth Group, the formation of a Middle School Group, and several connections to students at St. Mary University.
Position Summary:
The Youth Minister’s primary responsibility is to work directly with the youth and young adults and ministers in other areas of pastoral need.
Responsibilities for Youth:
- Minister to youth and young adults in their relationship with Jesus Christ and empower them grow and mature their faith. This person is responsible for middle school, high school, and young adult ministries, and involving Holy Rosary youth in Marianist LIFE summer program. This person will:
- Be available to youth and young adults to foster their development personally and spiritually.
- Communicate and collaborate with parents and families to foster a holistic faith experience.
- Plan and organize weekly youth gatherings for high school and monthly gatherings for middle school students integrating church teachings and social growth using interactive methods. Where possible, meetings for young adults.
- Organize and promote service opportunities for all three age groups.
- Organize and execute fundraisers for youth summer retreats.
- Accompany youth to Marianist LIFE summer program out of state.
- Budget input for work done.
- Actively engaged in social media, specifically Instagram.
- Link with St. Mary’s students to connect them to life at the parish and if possible, meet with Director of Campus Ministry.
- Ensure volunteers are Virtus compliant.
- Organize the involvement of HR youth in dramatic productions during 3 to 4 liturgies a year.
- Promote attendance at San Antonio Archdiocese programs/events.
- Offer some RE classes in modules for both HS classes.
- If one is assigned directly engage with a St. Mary University intern.
- Liaison with St. Mary’s University Inters in areas of Youth Ministry and assist them to reflect on their own experience.
- Prior to semester meet with volunteers and once during the semester.
- Submit plan yearly to the Pastor.
- Attend occasional staff meetings.
- And other tasks assigned.
Other areas need most development:
- Liturgy: The Minister will assist in helping the pastor with immutably liturgical issues: e.g., prayers of the faithful; notes to be placed on the screen.
- Technology: seek to be the lead in a small office of senior staff.
- Community Engagement: offering support to those groups building community.
Work Environment:
- Works hours as assigned by the Pastor (Monday through Sunday).
- Flexibility to work weekends and annual events as needed.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree with some qualification in religious education or theology.
- Experience of Youth Ministry and keen interest in working directly with small groups of youth and young adults.
- An openness to minister in Spanish.
- Demonstrate effective teaching skills at age-appropriate levels using different learning styles, mentoring, and counseling youth and young adults.
- Be an initiative-taker and work in start-up situations.
- Maintain a prominent level of confidentiality in all situations.
- Be a team builder and team member.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point).
