What are the responsibilities and job description for the ESports Head Coach position at Holyoke Community College?
The ESports head coach is responsible for administration of all phases of an intercollegiate ESports programming including but not limited to: recruiting quality student-athletes; organizing and training athletes for successful competition; monitoring and supporting the academic success of the student-athletes. This is a collegiate head coaching position and all of the duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of the governing bodies of the NJCAAE, NJCAA Region XXI, and Holyoke Community College.
- Recruitment: Establish a recruiting strategy and procedures to include preparation of recruiting letters and material, outreach to prospective student-athletes via in-person meetings, telephone, and/or zoom; Establish a comprehensive list of prospective student-athletes and regularly contact them about attending Holyoke Community College.
- Coaching: Organize, prepare, and conduct team practice sessions to train and prepare for competition; Direct, motivate, and advise student-athletes during competition; Effectively communicate proper fundamentals, techniques, and team strategies; Establish student-athlete and team goals; Establish and enforce team and college policies; Represent the college in a positive manner by demonstrating good sportsmanship and collegiality.
- Administrative: Meet with the Athletic Academic Advisor to monitor academic progress of student-athletes; Work with the Athletic Director to develop a competition schedule; Develop relationships with four-year coaches and implement a plan to assist students in transferring; Demonstrate an understanding and adhere to NJCAA eligibility and compliance regulations as well as applicable coach and student-athlete handbooks; Attend and participate in coaching staff meetings; Work with the Athletic Director or designee to ensure student-athlete eligibility paperwork is completed; Communicate with the Athletic Director or designee on uniform and/or equipment needs as necessary.
- Associate’s degree or higher;
- Knowledge of the sport of ESports as a student-athlete and/or a coach;
- Knowledge of recruitment and student-athlete development;
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to work nights and weekends;
- Valid driver’s license; the ability to work effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.
Bilingual (English/Spanish).
Hourly Rate: Stipend
Hours: Vary; some evening and weekend work required- All candidates must have legal authorization to work in the United States. HCC is not sponsoring H1B Visa.
