What are the responsibilities and job description for the Authorization Specialist position at Holzer Health System?
The Authorization Specialist is directly responsible and accountable to the Clinical Manager. The Authorization Specialist will be primarily responsible for accurate and timely prior authorization, reauthorization, and retroactive authorization for ordered services. Effectively communicating with third party payers and their Utilization Review Departments to assure services are authorized and documentation is submitted as required and/or requested. Monitor specified schedules daily to confirm that authorization has been secured. Exhibit proven ability to make logical, intelligent decisions independently with minimum supervision.
Education, Work Experience and Licensure
• High school diploma or GED with 2 years of college or Professional School preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in the medical field; previous home health experience preferred.
• Knowledgeable in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
• Familiarity with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) preferred.
• Must have available vehicle valid driver’s license, proof of auto liability insurance, and a clean driving record, which includes but is not limited to the following: no OVI, no reckless operation, and no failure of physical control on driving record. If such violations should occur after employment, employee may not continue working in the Home Care Department. Citations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
