Introduction to the Company

Home & Health Care Management is the oldest home health care agency in Northern California. Our agency specializes in delivering comprehensive in-home care and case management for older adults, children, and those living with disabilities across many counties. We use a matrix of Medi-Cal, Medicare and targeted health programs to find solutions that work for our clients.

Overview of the Role

The Medical Biller will process and follow up on medical billing, review remittance advice forms to verify proper reimbursement, and adjust as necessary

Who You Are:

You are a motivated Medical Billing Specialist who wants to make a big impact in a small company.

You pay attention to detail, have excellent communication skills, and have a solid understanding of insurance billing processes and regulations. You know about discretion and understand why this role is subject to HIPAA regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

You will be part of our all-important Accounting team. To perform this job successfully, you must be able to perform the following duties successfully:

1. Checks to ensure that agency records for patients include all information required for medical service reimbursement
2. Verifies correct medical coding to ensure prompt payment
3. Inputs correct billing information and transmits electronically to the health plans or applicable agency
4. Consults with clinical staff about all disputed claims and follows up on all bills not processed within the usual claim period
5. Reviews remittance advice forms to determine any adjustments made to bills as submitted and consults with the supervisor
6. Authorizes or adjusts claims to correct errors
7. Prepares weekly and monthly reports on billing as required
8. Attends training to keep aware of current changes in medical billing procedures
9. Manage changes with clearing houses
10. Manage the denial process
11. Other related duties as assigned

Essential Requirements:

• Two years of experience in clerical/office support work and/or education at the high school or post-high school level in English, spelling, keyboarding, computers, business, or office practices
• Experience with billing software and clearing houses
• Experiences with processing CIFs and TARs
• Skilled in operating a computer utilizing a variety of standard software, MS Office with Excel and Word, Outlook
• Excellent verbal communication skills and hearing ability to discuss billing with medical staff, patients, and Medicaid staff
• PPD two-step test or alternative as determined by agency policy
• Valid California Driver’s License and eligible to be insured under our liability policy with a clean DMV report
• Your own vehicle and proof of current auto insurance

Nice to Have:

• Five years of experience in medical billing or professional certificates in medical billing

Schedule and Location:

This is a full-time role, 40 hours per week, from Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm with an hour for lunch.

This is an office- based role and is not a remote role. You will need to be able to report to our Chico office each workday.

Compensation:

Pay range is $22 to $28 per hour. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.

On the first of the month following 60 days of employment you will be eligible for health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, life insurance, as well as Flexible Spending Account (FSA).

Leave accrues starting on your first day of employment, and you can take paid vacation, sick and holiday leave after 90 days.
