***Please note - this role will be based in our Norwood manufacturing facility and may require one day per week in our corporate headquarters in Needham and will follow our hybrid work model***
OVERVIEW OF ROLE
This role reports directly to the Cost Accounting Manager and is a proven professional, responsible for supporting all technical and operational aspects of Cost and Inventory accounting. This includes a hands-on knowledge of purchasing and manufacturing, intimate working knowledge of ERP systems, history of driving process and controls improvement and the ability to work effectively in a fast moving, cross-functional environment.
The Senior Cost Accountant works closely with manufacturing, inventory control, purchasing, facilities, quality, and other parts of the organization and is responsible for financial close, forecasting and operations related financial reporting.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring and ensure consistent application of cost accounting principles
- Build out detailed analysis on production cost reporting and present findings to key stakeholders
- Partner with the Operations teams to manage work order processing, along with Inventory Control and Management. This can include working on the plant floor to ensure correct order processing procedures are being followed.
- Develop Annual Operating Plan and monthly IBP forecasts of Commodities and Factory expenses
- Support month-end close process by reconciling accounts and performing journal entries, as well as analyzing variances to plan
- Monitor balance sheet accounts and prepare detailed account reconciliations for COGS
- Manage the process of assessing inventory for excess and obsolescence reserves
- Partner with Continuous Improvement team to analyze and track cost savings initiatives which deliver margin improvement and operational efficiencies
- Work closely with the Supply Chain team to understand production schedules, contracts, inventory movements and other supply chain matters to ensure inventory is fairly stated on the balance sheet
- Monitor the Company’s cycle count program. Ensure counts are being properly recorded and variances are investigated and resolved on a timely basis.
- Support both internal and external audits.
- Perform ad hoc analysis
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or other business degree, MBA or CPA preferred
- 7 or more years of progressive cost accounting experience, CPG experience preferred
- Strong ERP skills; Dynamics 365 preferred
- Strong knowledge and use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Knowledge of costing techniques, MRP systems and inventory controls in a manufacturing environment
- Experienced in researching, developing, and implementing accounting policies and procedures
- Team player with strong collaborative and communication skills
- Structured, disciplined, and organized with strong attention to detail and professional curiosity
- Highly motivated self-starter who can work well independently and in a team environment
- Provide leadership and take accountability for identifying and driving process and systems improvements
- Demonstrated business and financial acumen with exceptional analytical/quantitative skills. Ability to build out PPT presentations and comfortable presenting to Senior Leadership
