Job Summary

 

Under minimal supervision of the Facilities Supervisor, the Facilities Technician is responsible for all general and preventative maintenance and repair of all agency owned and leased community homes and related equipment and grounds to ensure the safety and maximum quality of life for all staff, consumers, and visitors as well as protection of the facility assets.

 

Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities

 

General and Preventative Maintenance:

  • Performs routine maintenance and general repairs to assigned community group homes, including but not limited to appliances, communications equipment, HVAC systems, grounds including irrigation, plumbing, electrical, general carpentry, interior and exterior walls and surfaces and specialized janitorial services as required.
  • Uses all tools as required in a proficient manner to perform varied tasks.
  • Inspects assigned homes to ascertain needed repairs and to ensure proactive approach to all preventative maintenance on a regular basis.
  • Reports facilities needing repair or alteration to Facilities Coordinator and assists with the project specification, estimating, and material procurement related to all projects.
  • Takes all necessary precautions when using any hazardous equipment or other materials to ensure compliance with all regulations and to ensure safety of consumers and staff.
  • Performs on-call duties as assigned.
  • Performs routine check of assigned vehicle (i.e. oil, air pressure, etc.)
  • Calculate amounts of required material and estimate costs.

Communication:

  • Responds to all verbal and written requests in a courteous, professional and timely manner.
  • Interacts appropriately with all agency employees, consumers, visitors, contractors and vendors.
  • Maintains all written records as required; and follows all accounting procedures for proper submission of receipts, and invoices.
  • Responds to emergency situations as may be necessary via cell phones and/or pager as assigned.

Qualifications


Knowledge, Skills, and Education

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 3 years maintenance experience with progressive responsibility.
  • Read, write and understand the English language.
  • Able to establish and maintain effective relationships with consumers, coworkers, neighbors, volunteers, vendors and the general public.
  • Possess high degree of patience and the ability to tolerate frustrating situations.
  • Knowledge of HIPPA Guidelines and Patient Privacy required.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification is mandatory.
  • Able to multi-task and manage work time efficiently.
  • Computer literacy and ability to utilize Excel, Word and Outlook for record keeping and communication.
  • Able to see, talk, hear, walk, bend, stoop, sit, stand, reach, and lift items weighing 30 pounds or less repeatedly during a shift.
  • Able to lawfully and safely drive an agency vehicle in all traffic situations and weather conditions.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire. 
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol test within 48 hours of a job offer. 
  • Must pass a pre-employment health screening/TB Test; and annually thereafter.  
  • Have a criminal records clearance from DHS and/or DSS (Live Scan fingerprinting).
  • Must possess a valid California driver’s license, proof of safe driving record (current DMV report required) and have 24 months of licensed driving experience.

 

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

 

 While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to perform physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, reaching, carrying, lifting, bending, twisting, stooping, and kneeling. Specifically, the employee will also be frequently required to climb or balance, stoop kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee will be required to assist with lifting, moving material to and from vehicles and will frequently be required to lift up to 50 lbs.

The Mission of HGH is "to improve the lives of those we serve". We support children and adults in San Diego and Imperial Counties with intellectual and developmental disabilities, such as Down syndrome, epilepsy, autism, and cerebral palsy. We provide a full continuum of care including residential care in specialized group homes, independent living support, respite care, and adult foster home services.  Additionally, we provide early childhood assessments and services, tailored day support, Life Planning workshops, county-wide transportation services, and on-site activities at our resource center.
