Position Overview
The Head of Marketing will lead Home Surplus' marketing strategy - driving brand awareness, customer engagement, and sales growth. This role will oversee media agencies, manage an internal creative team, and collaborate cross-functionally with eCommerce, merchandising, and operations. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a balance of strategic vision and executional excellence. The position is currently slotted as a Director, but the company may adapt title as needed in order to attract the best candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Brand Strategy & Management – Define and refine Home Surplus’ brand positioning, messaging, and identity.
- Marketing Strategy & Execution – Develop and implement comprehensive marketing plans spanning branding, awareness campaigns, promotions, and social media.
- Agency Leadership – Direct and manage external media, creative, research, and promotional agencies.
- Creative Oversight – Guide the internal creative team to produce compelling marketing assets.
- Content & Social Media – Oversee content strategy and organic social media efforts.
- Data-Driven Marketing – Track, analyze, and optimize key performance metrics.
- Budget Management – Develop and manage the marketing budget, ensuring efficiency and ROI.
- Customer Engagement – Oversee CRM and direct marketing initiatives.
- Competitive Analysis – Conduct market research and track competitor activities.
- Internal Collaboration & Communication – Ensure marketing initiatives are well-integrated across departments.
What We’re Looking For
- Retail Marketing Expertise – Experience in omnichannel (brick-and-mortar & eCommerce) marketing.
- Strategic Leadership – Proven ability to develop and execute successful marketing strategies.
- Analytical Mindset – Strong understanding of KPIs, digital marketing analytics, and performance optimization.
- Agency Management – Experience leading media, creative, and research agencies.
- Content & Social – Strong background in content marketing and organic social media growth.
- Data & Technology – Knowledge of customer data platforms and CRM strategies.
- Leadership Skills – Ability to build, develop, and inspire a high-performing marketing team.
- Exceptional Communication – Clear, compelling communicator and strategic thinker.
- Agility & Adaptability – Parallel processor able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
- 7 years of marketing experience, with at least 3 years in a Director-level role within retail.
- Omnichannel retail marketing background (online & offline).
- Proven success managing marketing budgets and agency partnerships.
- Advertising/marketing agency experience is a plus.
- Track record of leading and developing high-performing teams.
