Position: Reuse Technician Level 2

Summary of Responsibilities: 

Sort, process and identify electronics and commodities from our inventory and collections that have potential resale value.  Utilize current and look for new efficient methods to evaluate an item’s potential value as a whole or parts unit.  Test and verify functionality of electronics using R2 standards. Occasionally assist Asset Management and Data Destruction managers and leads with projects both on and off site as needed.

Evaluation and Testing Electronics

  • Assess functionality and economic repairability of audio and video equipment as well as contemporary computing and networking equipment.
  • For salvage equipment, help determine ideal pathway:
    • Restore or repair items to “like new” or other economically feasible condition
  • Efficiently harvest valuable parts when whole unit repair is not feasible or ideal 
  • Process for creative reuse applications, including as props and display pieces
  • Test and troubleshoot equipment to identify current or potential points of failure. 
  • Accurately complete appropriate paperwork on repaired/refurbished items.
  • Interface with manufacturers, sales reps, and engineers to obtain schematics, information or parts to facilitate equipment repair.
  • Work collaboratively with other reuse/repair technicians, sharing personal expertise and techniques, helping each other follow procedure, adjusting workflow and priorities as needed, auditing each other’s work, etc.
  • Follow R2 standard processes at all times.
  • Keep your workstation and surrounding area clean and organized.

Inventory Management

  • Assist colleagues in identifying potentially high value electronics in the recycling stream and staging them for further evaluation.
  • Verify material against shipping list and system.
  • Record and store all devices properly.
  • Maintain proper stock levels of all shipping and testing materials.
  • Ensure data, in all forms, is handled securely and completely removed, erased, reset, and/or physically destroyed before it leaves HBR property.

Special Projects and Other Duties as Assigned

  • Help with local and national Data Destruction or Asset Management projects.
  • Help manage, maintain and upgrade electronics/equipment that the company uses in day-to-day operations.
  • Monitor and Hit personal KPI’s
    • Number of items tested, listed, shipped, managed, etc
    • Limit Defect rate to 1-3%

Sales and Customer Interaction

  • Support resale and retail store staff to price, discuss, and sell equipment you have tested/fixed.
  • Interface with repair service customers, including taking repair orders, discussing best courses of action before and after diagnosis.

Process Improvement, Special Projects, and Personal Learning

  • Complete company QEHS (Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety) training and help continually improve those policies and procedures.
  • Develop and adhere to streamlined ways of testing or fixing large batches of similar items.
  • Research and implement testing methods for speciality or uncommon electronics 
  • Expand personal knowledge of trends, techniques, tools, software, etc. related to vintage and specialty electronics.
  • Help develop additional creative reuse applications. 
 

Basic Qualifications/Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Warehouse Experience Recommended.
  • Ability to stay focused while sitting or standing for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, squat, reach overhead, and push and pull without physical injury.
  • Ability to safely use pallet jacks, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Must be tech savvy with computer hardware/software, internet, and mobile applications.
  • Experience with both Windows and Apple Operating Systems.
  • Understanding of basic audio/video signal paths and connectivity.
  • Strong history of using and interacting with technology. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with a natural customer service orientation.
  • Capable of speaking and writing about technical aspects of electronic devices.
  • Comfortable with Google (Docs, Sheets) and Microsoft (Word, Excel) suites of applications.
  • Attentive to detail with solid analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Ability to work both independently, with initiative, and as an effective member of a team.
  • Ability to problem solve, multitask, and wear multiple hats in a fast-paced startup environment.
 

Additional Position Information  

  • Classification: Non-Exempt (Hourly), according to FLSA guidelines.
  • Work Conditions and Physical Requirements: Hybrid Warehouse/Office environment including regular standing and sitting at a desk, use of computer, occasional lifting of approximately 5-50 pounds. Some exposure to adjacent warehouse environments, with occasional loud noises from machinery, tools, and equipment.
  • Work Schedule: Full-time. Core business hours are Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.
  • Compensation: DOE
  • Benefits: Medical Insurance Coverage, Generous Paid Time Off,  Paid Sick Days.
  • Other: This position may include occasional travel within the greater Los Angeles area and elsewhere in California or other states. Occasional evening or weekend availability may be necessary.
