The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description Under the direction of the Fire Protection Specialist 3, the incumbent will supervise the daily activities of the Risk Reduction Unit.Duties included, but not limited to: •Supervises and manages Fire Protection Specialist 1s, administrative staff, and State Fire Instructors (SFI).•Serves as risk reduction liaison to internal and external partners.•Recommends and supports the development of new training programs related to fire and life safety education and community risk reduction.•Fosters local, county, and state level community risk assessment and reduction planning efforts.•Supports local, county, and state community risk reduction coalitions.•Manages the portfolio of fire and life safety education training and education programs of the Office of Fire Prevention and Control (OFPC). •Supervises life safety code and fire prevention inspection programs.•Reviews inspection reports prepared by subordinates and supervises the preparation of formal departmental recommendations for remedial action, including legal action.•Works with the NYS Education Department to develop, implement and monitor curriculum for use in grades K-12 to meet the requirements of New York State Education Law, Title 1, Article 18, Section 808.•Supervises the NYS Fair Public Education detail.•Performs the more complex inspections and prepares reports. •Reviews curricula, lesson plans, instructional materials, and public education materials for content, relevance, and accuracy.•Works with the Data and Research team to determine program objectives and strategies to attain them based on data collection and analysis. •Reviews student evaluations and instructional staff recommendations to identify areas for course improvements. •Prepares technical reports on fire reporting data, fire safety trends and developments, and new technologies. •Represents the State Fire Administrator at meetings with local officials and at national, state, and local seminars, conferences, and workshops. •Assigns work, evaluates work performance, counsels’ staff, approve and manages leave, prepares, trains, and educate staff, and participates in the interview and selection process. •Performs other duties and special projects as required.
