Job Overview
The Intake Specialist will work with families and/or individuals to identify appropriate referrals and relevant community programs that potentially offer solutions and alternative housing arrangements for a quick resolution. While the focus is triaging and directing the community requests for resources, the Intake Specialist may also support Rapid Resolution Specialists with service requests for financial aid with the goal of obtaining alternate safe and stable housing arrangements.

Responsibilities

  • Intake and assessment of incoming participants to determine eligibility and appropriate services and make referrals and appointments with appropriate agency, services and/or case managers as needed. Based on the information provided by clients, make a referral to the Rapid Resolution Specialist for Prevention, Diversion, or Community Navigation.
  • Assess personal safety in each interaction and undertake due diligence in maintaining personal safety with families and/or individuals who may be experiencing adverse life circumstance, trauma, and/or emotional response to homelessness or risk of homelessness.
  • Creatively identify solutions and alternative housing arrangements with each family and/or individual that quickly resolves the family’s and/or individual’s housing crisis.
  • Assess the financial situation of the family and/or individual and the need for supportive services, such as financial assistance. Provide other support for families and/or individual necessary to secure safe and stable housing and resources to maintain housing.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality.

Qualifications

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Flexibility in work hours is important.

Language Ability

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, to include, but not limited to, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Education/Experience

Preferred experience in serving homeless or at-risk families and or individuals in crisis. Have demonstrated experience in mediation, trauma informed care, conflict resolution, motivational interviewing, negotiation, active listening, and strength-based approach.

Must pass a Level II Background Screening.

Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities

  • Must be able to articulate and demonstrate a clear understanding of homelessness, dynamics, and intervention.
  • Must be able to work effectively with populations who have experienced homelessness, vulnerability, developmental delays, compromised mental wellness, brain injuries, and/or other conditions or situations that have impacted housing stability.
  • Must be willing and able to work with people from a variety of racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds with various lifestyles, sexual orientations, and of all ages.
  • Considerable knowledge of community resources and referral networks, and the capacity to identify and develop relationships with new sources and services as they become available.
  • Solution focused, detailed oriented, and strong organizational skills with the capacity to develop and manage systems that ensure accurate and timely follow-up, as well as documentation.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists, as well as provide effective response while in a demanding situation.
  • Computer skills, word processing database, and spreadsheet software capabilities.

Job Types: Part-time, Temporary

Pay: From $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 25 – 28 per week

  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed
