AHOPE provides basic services (showers, mail, phone, storage) and staff that work to build relationships that lead people out of homelessness and into permanent housing. The Crisis Intervention Specialist ensures that AHOPE is a safe place for anyone in the community. The CIS works together with case managers to ensure that clients follow posted rules and works to diffuse any potentially dangerous situations before they begin. The CIS uses observation and de-escalation to help maintain AHOPE as a safe space for all clients. The CIS is the point of contact for emergency services and is responsible for notifying emergency services that their service is required. Schedule and compensation : Full time, 40 hours / week, non-exempt hourlyPosition Requirements Preferred Certifications : North Carolina Certified Peer Support SpecialistNorth Carolina Community Health Worker CertificationResponsibilities : The Crisis Intervention Specialist (CIS) seeks out potentially dangerous or unsafe clients / situations and works in partnership with case management to diffuse / de-escalate them before they become a larger matter. The CIS will actively work with AHOPE team to provide harm reduction to clients in need and to reduce the level of harm that participants may experience due to mental health and substance use. The CIS patrols the interior and exterior of the day center during business hours, making sure that clients are following rules and no prohibited or illegal activity is occurring.The CIS completes activity and incident reports at the end of each shift, as well as maintaining a database of all reportsThe CIS will participate in daily debriefings with AHOPE staff. The CIS will work with AHOPE Program Manager to establish crisis plans for individuals needing additional attention, support, or deferment of services. The ability to be empathetic and to speak comfortably with individuals from all walks of life is an important part of the position.A strong working knowledge of computers and software such as Microsoft Office and Box, as well as the ability to operate and monitor surveillance software. Display proficiency in operating a computer, fax machine, printer and copier.Effectively communicate in oral and written forms with community members, their families, significant others, coworkers, supervisors, other service agencies and the community.Participate in the daily cleaning and chores at AHOPE Day Center.Operations to include, but not limited to : daily attendance, locker runs, vouchers and referrals, distribution of mail, and distribution of meals
