The Organization

Homeward Bound is the leading nonprofit organization in Buncombe County focused on preventing and ending homelessness using the best practice Housing First model. We work collaboratively with community partners and have a proven track record of helping individuals and families achieve housing stability. Since 2006, Homeward Bound has moved more than 2,615 people off the streets, out of cars, camps, and shelters and into permanent housing.

Our Values

  • We believe in the absolute value and worth of every single human being.
  • We believe that housing is a basic human right, integral to self-worth and dignity.
  • We believe that homelessness is a solvable problem.
  • We believe that everyone should live without fear of oppression and persecution. Whether homeless or housed, each individual has the right to be who they are and to be treated with dignity and respect.

Overview

AHOPE Day Center is the front door to our agency and to the community’s homeless service system. AHOPE provides basic services (showers, mail, phone, storage) and staff that work to build relationships that lead people out of homelessness and into permanent housing.

The Crisis Intervention Specialist ensures that AHOPE is a safe place for anyone in the community. The CIS works together with case managers to ensure that clients follow posted rules and works to diffuse any potentially dangerous situations before they begin. The CIS uses observation and de-escalation to help maintain AHOPE as a safe space for all clients. The CIS is the point of contact for emergency services and is responsible for notifying emergency services that their service is required.
