Job Title: Activity Director
Location: Honey Creek Heights Senior Living, West Allis, WI

Overview:
Honey Creek Heights Senior Living is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Activity Director to lead and manage our vibrant activities program for seniors. The Activity Director will plan, implement, and oversee a diverse calendar of activities in accordance with community guidelines, ensuring that each resident’s individuality, participation, and leadership are encouraged. This role also includes creating partnerships with the local community to offer residents opportunities for volunteer work, lifelong learning, and intergenerational activities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to CAPLICO Core Values and Code of Conduct at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with Resident Rights and HIPAA policies.
  • Foster a sense of independence, fulfillment, and accomplishment for residents through engaging activities.
  • Plan and maintain a balanced daily and monthly calendar of events based on resident preferences, continually seeking feedback on likes/dislikes and suggestions for new programs.
  • Build and maintain strong community partnerships to offer a broad variety of programming options, collaborating with local organizations and businesses.
  • Create volunteer opportunities for residents within the community.
  • Lead and facilitate programs in a timely manner, ensuring resident participation and engagement.
  • Empower residents to take leadership roles in organizing and leading activities, fostering a sense of pride and ownership.
  • Promote and encourage active participation in all activities and events, identifying personalized motivation for each resident.
  • Oversee ordering and management of activity supplies.
  • Monitor financial records related to activities and complete necessary administrative tasks such as financial statements and documentation for volunteers.
  • Transport residents to local activities and events in the community as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Directly supervise Activities staff and volunteers who assist in providing activities for residents.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily works throughout the community, including grounds and off-site locations for field trips and events.
  • Regularly interacts with residents, staff, visitors, and community organizations.
  • Exposure to challenging situations involving emotionally upset individuals, such as residents or family members.
  • Occasional involvement in community health initiatives and civic projects.
  • Possible exposure to physical hazards such as falls, burns, and infectious diseases.
  • Handling of hazardous chemicals in accordance with safety guidelines.

Physical Demands and Sensory Requirements:

  • Frequent movement throughout the community.
  • Ability to handle mental and emotional stress effectively.
  • Good visual and auditory abilities, with or without prosthetics, to ensure safety and effective interaction with residents.
  • Must be capable of standing, walking, bending, pushing, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to push/pull up to 100 lbs and assist with resident evacuation during emergencies.

Specific Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to make independent decisions when needed and handle sensitive situations with tact and professionalism.
  • Calm and level-headed in emergency situations.
  • Well-groomed, professional, and capable of working harmoniously with other staff members.
  • Flexible and open to adopting new methods and techniques to improve resident care.
  • Ability to operate various activity-related equipment such as vehicles for resident transport, office equipment, sports and game equipment, and gardening tools.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required; preferred college degree in Recreation Therapy, Human Services, or a related field.
  • Two years of equivalent experience in activity planning for older adults.
  • Experience managing staff and volunteers is preferred.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification required.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (no major violations).
