Finance Manager
Job Type: Full time, 40 hours/week, exempt
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, with two optional remote workdays
We’re hiring! Honolulu Habitat for Humanity is looking for caring professionals who are passionate about our mission of providing affordable housing on Oʻahu.
The Finance Manager oversees all financial operations of Honolulu Habitat for Humanity, ensuring the organization’s financial health, transparency, and compliance. This role includes managing day-to-day accounting, processing payments, overseeing grant tracking and reporting, and leading budget planning. The Director of Finance plays a key role in audit preparation, tax filing, and maintaining internal controls aligned with GAAP standards. With experience in nonprofit and construction finance, this leader helps drive strategic financial planning and supports the Executive Director in building a sustainable and mission-driven organization.
The position reports directly to the Executive Director of Honolulu Habitat for Humanity.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Controls
- Process vendor payments, track invoices, and manage accounts payable and receivable.
- Serve as the organization's Controller, meaning they oversee daily financial operations, ensure proper financial reporting, manage cash flow, and uphold internal controls and procedures.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with nonprofit and GAAP standards.
Grant & Compliance Support
- Track grant income and expenditures in compliance with donor restrictions and reporting requirements.
- Work closely with program and development staff to ensure adherence to grant budgets.
- Ensure reporting and documentation is audit-ready and aligned with federal/state guidelines.
Audit & Tax Preparation
- Prepare financial statements and lead all audit preparations.
- Coordinate with external auditors to ensure a smooth and timely audit process.
- Oversee annual tax filings (Form 990) and related documentation.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead the organization’s annual budgeting process, including setting timelines, coordinating input from department leads, and finalizing the budget for board approval.
- Monitor financial performance against budget and provide monthly financial reports and insights.
Strategic & Operational Planning
- Establish financial schedules, calendar, and deadlines for budgeting, audits, grant reporting, and board financial updates.
- Help set and manage operational timelines for key activities across finance and programs.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of finance experience, preferably in a nonprofit or construction setting.
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, grant management, and audit processes.
- Experience in financial planning, analysis, and reporting.
- Familiarity with construction project budgeting is strongly preferred.
- Proficient in QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA preferred.
Compensation
This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary range of $75,000–$85,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits include a flexible schedule with potential four-day workweek (Monday–Thursday, with up to two hybrid workdays), paid time off, health/dental/vision insurance, 401(k).
