FUNCTION AND SCOPE
The Safety Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of the safety and health program at the paper mill. This position ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and promotes a culture of safety across all departments. The role involves hazard identification, employee training, policy development, and continuous improvement of safety performance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate across departments to foster a proactive and inclusive safety culture throughout the organization.
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs and procedures in accordance with OSHA and company standards.
- Conducts regular safety inspections and audits of equipment, processes, and work areas
- Investigates accidents and incidents, identifies root causes, and ensures corrective actions are implemented.
- Provides safety training for all employees, contractors, and new hires.
- Maintains up-to-date records of safety statistics, audits, training, and compliance documentation.
- Leads the facility's emergency response planning and training, including fire drills and evacuation procedures.
- Acts as the primary contact during OSHA or other regulatory agency inspections.
- Facilitates safety committee meetings and promotes employee engagement in safety initiatives.
- Ensure proper PPE usage and safe operating procedures across all shifts.
- Collaborate with maintenance and operation teams to address hazards and improve safety in daily activities.
- Oversee site security services to ensure the protection of personnel, property, and assets.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, engineering, or related field.
- Two (2) years of related work experience preferred.
- Experience with continuous and/or process improvement in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of safety regulations, including OSHA, ANSI, and NFPA.
- Government or professional training and compliance courses (e.g., OSHA 30-hour training) are preferred.
- Strong business acumen and the ability to collaborate across different functions to integrate people and business strategies.
- Agility to manage multiple projects, prioritize effectively, and thrive in a complex, fast-paced work environment.
- A mindset that balances strategic and systems thinking with operational implementation and execution.
